confortable, quiet & spacious”
It was fine & we enjoyed our very nice room with comfortable beds etc. Unfortunately shuttle bus service to the nearest Railway Station wasnt really well organized. On a Friday for ex. first shuttle from the hotel leaves at 10am. In the evening the same; when guests are comming back, the last shuttle leaves 5pm from the railway station. So we walked onwards & back. The day we left with our luguage, the bus had to be called by hotel-staff, as he didnt show up on time. Sorry, to say so, but we wouldnt book again at "Royal Oak" Hotel

Excellent choice near Lake Biwa”
We chose to stay in this hotel which is just opposite the Lake Biwa, with beautiful scenery than in the city centre of Kyoto. The room for 4-person was extremely huge, spacious, clean with a make-up room and the toilet/bathroom was huge too with bathtub & cubicle shower. Free parking was available at the basement. A beautiful garden is on-site too. It seems many couples held their wedding functions in this hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Beautiful hotel”
It is really a beautiful hotel, castle like exterior and superb gardens and landscaping. The view is good overlooking the lake Biwa, the largest fresh water lake in Japan. The hotel provide good facilities and the staff are friendly. They can speak English. Walking distance to the nearby shopping center and restaurant.

Luxury treat outside of Kyoto”
Luxury hotels are not normally our thing, but we booked this last minute as there was nowhere else available in or near Kyoto at the time. The hotel is in a quiet location where there aren't really many reasonably priced eateries, which may be inconvenient for families who are on a budget. The rooms are huge and there are apparently pool and spa facilities, but as we were out sightseeing all day, this was a bit wasted on us. There is a hotel mini bus to take you to the local station (about 10 minutes), from there the journey into Kyoto is about 15 minutes. Great staff and level of service but there is no free wi-fi!

A Memorable Stay”
The hotel fronts Lake Biwa, which gives it a very peaceful ambience. I don't remember the names, but the staff were very efficient and helpful, especially one lady who came to the room to explain to us some directions with all the necessary maps and fare lists. The rooms were very clean and had very good in-house music. A supermarket is just a few minutes' walk away, and there is a free shuttle bus to the Ishiyama station. Benches in front of the hotel make nice picnic spots. Stay here if you intend to visit the Biwako Valley Ski Resort. A memorable stay indeed.

Huge rooms, very comfortable”
This hotel is about a 20 minute train ride outside of Kyoto. It is easy to get to the closest station from the Kyoto station and the hotel runs a shuttle from the train station to the hotel. The hotel is along the lake where we watched fishermen and crew teams. It is a very beautiful location. The room was fantastic and by far the largest room I've stayed at in Japan. We had a wonderful time!

Elegant and large hotel, room is huge, similar to US hotels.”
Hotel location is the only setback. Nothing much to do or see around hotel during winter. We missed the shuttle bus from train station and waited an hour for the next shuttle. Around 15 to 20 minutes walk to nearby Aeon Mall, but the road is pretty dark and quiet in night time, not for the faint hearted. Using hotel facilities eg swimming pool or gym have to pay extra fees. Since we stayed only one night during low season, room rate was good value for money.

Big room. Bring a car”
Great hotel with nice big rooms and very clean. Not much near the hotel so it would be best if you had a car. Right next to the massive lake but on the southern most tip so not many things to see near the hotel. Kyoto is about 30min away by car. All in all a great hotel.

Nice & Spacious Hotel”
The Hotel is very good in terms of room size and facilities. It's only 5 minutes drive away from the nearest Aeon Mall, and there are convenience stores and cafe opens 24h within 5 minutes walking distance. The staff is friendly and very helpful. As in other hotels in Japan, please don't expect they understand English very well. Highly appreciate their passion towards customers. The river right in front of the hotel is very nice and you can also take great pictures.

Relaxing hotel”
The hotel was right in front of lake Biwako and we found staying at the hotel to be a relaxing experience. There was a McDonald's and FamilyMart convenience store close by. The shuttle service from/to the hotel was good and prompt. The hotel staff was friendly and caring as well.

Excellent Value”
So happy that we booked this hotel. Three large double beds in the triple room and very spacious with great facilities. Would certainly recommend this place to stay if you are in this area. Great view of the lake if you face that direction.

A Truly Get-away vacation!”
The Hotel shows some ages, to be frank. But the service is impeccable through the joint efforts of the Front desks and the restaurants' staffs. After all the visitors cherish the total experience which the hotel truly delivers. The free shuttle bus service also adds value, too!

Great hotel, the staff were super helpful and friendly, the pool was a nice surprise. ”
I wish I had known beforehand that they have a shuttle bus from the train station to the hotel, we walked the whole way with our backpack, roughly 2.5km across a bridge, but it's all part of the adventure. In my opinion the buffet at night was really good but a bit pricey, 5.500¥ per person and 950¥ for a draught beer. It's right across the street from Lake Biwa where there's a pathway to go for walks.

A perfect way to get away from the busy Kyoto ”
I only had one night stay at this hotel. The overall experience has been fantastic. Even though it is a little far away from the city center, but the hotel provide shuttle service to the nearest train station, which is Ishiyama station.

Nice view and spacious room”
Very convenient with Free shuttle connection fm JR ishiyama station to hotel every sharp hour. Take ard 15 min ride fm JR ishiyama station to Kyoto station, excellent!! The breakfast is fruitful, the lake view is gorgeous and very impressive. The hotel staff is helpful and easy to find the eating place in the right hand side of the hotel. The shower a bit dirt but the long bath is good. The internet speed is fast and easy to connect. Good choice to stay there !!

Great hotel but in the middle of nowhere!”
We really enjoyed our stay and thought the hotel was amazing. However, you need to walk 3km to the nearest train station and then travel for 20minutes every day in order to get to Kyoto...it certainly isn't central.

Nice Hotel on the lake”
This is a large hotel that caters to wedding receptions. This means lodging can be cheap during odd season and on weekdays. Facilities are somewhat dated but first rate in condition and cleanliness. Fast free WiFi and excellent breakafst buffet. Location is close to the rowing center and a short hike to Ishiyama temple where one of the world's first novels, Tales of Genji, was written by a noblewoman in the 11 th century.

great hotel bad location”
The location for this hotel is not great. They only have a shuttle bus every hour. If they had more frequent shuttle buses then it would be fine. The rooms are huge and really comfortable.
