Wanted to experience this historic 5 star hotel in Saigon on my final 2 nights in Vietnam. Spent 1 night in the Deluxe King and second night in the Premium King. VAST difference in size and quality of rooms highly recommend spending a bit more for the Premium King. The Deluxe was small and room smelt mouldy. Window was facing the corridor so needed to keep the curtains drawn the entire time. Premium King is located in a different newer building with no mouldy smell, a lot more spacious. The bathtub in the Deluxe room had a few bugs - unsure if house keeping didn't do their job or bugs got there after. Towels were also thin for a 5 star and no bathroom slippers. Moreover bathroom fittings at the new building was more luxe. The pillow menu was a nice touch even though they did not have the body pillow on offer. Breakfast buffet selection was decent. Have had worse, have also had better. The view and vibe from the outdoor rooftop restaurant bar was 👌. Pro tip - there is a second pool upstairs which is quieter. Also the steamroom was relaxing and cleansing after 2 weeks of motorcycle riding in the Ha Giang loop and Dalat 🏍🏞🇻🇳😍. Location is fantastic heart of D1 but if going to the airport please allow for more time. It took my Grab taxi 10 mins to get through the traffic to reach me (had to pay 500k at airport to "fast track" which was stressful. Cannot fault their staff they all spoke excellent English and were faultlessly professional. From their front door porter through to their front of house to their waitstaff. Thank you - you guys made my stay in HCMC 🙏🫶. I don't think I'll stay there again however as the food in D1 were mediocre at best. All tourist rort and tasted bland. Eateries in surrounding suburbs were much MUCH better. Wanted to stay in D1 for Ben Thanh markets but got there and realised its pretty much the same as Paddy's Market in Sydney and could not leave fast enough.
Well.. So much potential, but a little rough around the edges.. The public spaces in the hotel are wonderful, foyer is expansive with many designer stores for a hotel in such a prime location. The roof bar is great in an evening with live band, it’s also great to sit out in for breakfast.. the cigar bar was a bit dated and a very limited supply of whisky by the glass.. The breakfast restaurant is stacked with pretty tightly packed tables.. a great idea if everyone wants aircon and no breakfast queue.. after the 1st day I took breakfast outside, it was a whole different relaxing experience.. the breakfast choice was very limited.. I stayed at the Sofitel last time - now that’s what breakfast should be in a 5* hotel. I was so disappointed with the limited choices I went out for breakfast on my last day, although I did stop in on the way back for an earl grey. The ammenities were sufficient.. 2 pools, expansive gym with everything you could need, even a punch bag.. Steam room and Sauna in the men’s changing room (I guess the women’s had the same). I relaxed at the pool one day to watch some Netflix. I hung my shirt from the umbrella so it didn’t crease, the lady giving out the towels came over and asked me to remove it as it wasn’t a nice look for the area…. I had to ask her to repeat and she told me it wasn’t allowed.. bearing in mind the the pain is pealing on the dirty looking walls, there’s pigeons everywhere, there’s obnoxious kids doing bombs into the pool splashing all guests and screaming at the top of their voices and a small blue linen shirt hung neatly is causing offence and ruining the aesthetics…. I was blown away. She stood there staring until I removed my shirt.. My room was on the 5th floor which was handy to get to breakfast or the gym.. however it’s quite noisy with foot traffic from 6:30am so bring ear plugs.. the bed and pillows were comfy and I got a decent sleep until 6:30am.. The room itself was not massive and a bit dilapidated, furniture was old looking, paper peeling on the walls, the bathroom was also old with a shower over the bath.. it was sufficient and clean but a stark contrast to the hotel foyer. The TV was modern enough to have a spare HDMI to plug in a firestick. The wifi in the hotel was hit and miss.. sometimes ok to stream other times a bit of buffering, to the wifi wouldn’t accept a connection. You got a voucher on checkin for a free 15min massage.. when I went to the spa, they basically told me it was useless as you can’t do anything in 15 mins and I should book an hour and they would add the 15 mins extra on.. so I didn’t use it.. The location is perfect!! Everywhere is 5+ mins away.. probably the best location in all my HCMC trips. Would I stay again.. even though it’s a bit rough, the location to me was perfect.. if the price is right I’d definitely stay again, but knowing what it’s like, it needs to be a good deal.
We had a wonderful stay at the Rex Hotel Saigon and would happily return on our next visit to Ho Chi Minh City. The location is fantastic. We could walk easily to many of the city’s historic landmarks, including the Saigon Opera House, Ho Chi Minh City Hall, and the Saigon Central Post Office. Being in the center of District 1 made it simple to explore the city and enjoy its vibrant atmosphere. Our room was large and very comfortable, with plenty of space to relax after a full day exploring Ho Chi Minh City. The hotel blends classic charm with comfort, which adds to the overall experience. One of the highlights of our stay was the rooftop buffet. The setting is beautiful, with views across the city, and the selection of food was excellent. We enjoyed the variety and the quality of the dishes. The service throughout the hotel was outstanding. The staff were welcoming, attentive, and always ready to help. Their hospitality made our stay feel easy and enjoyable from the moment we arrived. Situated right in D1, Rex hotel is extremely convenient when it comes to heading to tourist spots but for someone who has been to Saigon many times, the hotel will stand pale when compared to many of the other 5 star hotels, unless you are someone who is nostalgic or never seen pre-war HCM. Rex has a mix of oriental design with French input. Which makes it stand out, but after touring Vietnam a bit, the decor seems quite meh; maybe you can go during Halloween, since the old photos on the walls and some corridors do make it look like you are in a scene from "The Shining" In any case, free parking is available at basement 2 and service staff are fantastic plus polite. Breakfast lounge is huge but variety though a lot when compared to other smaller hotels in HCM, it doesn't stand out for a 5 star hotel. On the whole, the price when booked through Agoda is reasonable but do note that there is no street view. The live band above plays pretty well, but it ends at 11pm and prices of drinks starts from around VND299K. Just experience once or twice at this hotel should be enough in my opinion.

The Good…Fantastic Location, close to all the main attraction’s with places to eat and drink nearby as well. Fantastic Breakfast in the rooftop area, probably the best of my whole trip…amazing selection of food to select from. Great staff…very helpful, although I did have to find my own room on arrival…no big deal though. Very lovely and friendly cleaning lady who always smiles and greats you as you walk past her as she cleans everybody’s rooms. The Bad…The ground floor area looks like a 5 star hotel with designer shops on the way to the lift ect…but the room I stayed at on the East wing looks like an American Motel from the 1980s…no hot water in the shower and you could hear the pigeons (getting it on) through the wall to the ledge on the outside. Look all in all…it’s a good Hotel in a great location for the right price with a Fantastic Breakfast….its just not a 5 Star hotel….so if you stay here ….make sure its a good rate.
I recently stayed at Rex Hotel Saigon and overall had a very enjoyable experience. The hotel has a rich historical charm, blending classic colonial architecture with modern comforts. Its location is unbeatable — right in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, within walking distance of major attractions like the Opera House, Nguyen Hue Walking Street, and Ben Thanh Market. The rooms were spacious and well-kept, though some parts of the décor show their age. Housekeeping did a great job keeping everything clean and tidy. The bed was comfortable, and the air-conditioning worked well, which is essential in Saigon’s heat. Service throughout my stay was friendly and professional, with staff always ready to assist. Check-in and check-out were smooth and efficient. If there’s one area for improvement, it would be the soundproofing which could be better for business travelers. Otherwise, Rex Hotel remains a grand landmark with great service and atmosphere — ideal for both tourists and business visitors wanting a taste of Saigon’s heritage.

The hotel offers a pleasant ambiance, excellent staff and services, and a delightful breakfast buffet. Here are some highlights from our experience: • Outstanding Staff: The friendly and supportive team left a lasting impression with their kindness, politeness, and attentiveness. • Exceptional Breakfast Buffet: The buffet is spacious and offers a wide variety of high-quality food to suit all taste. Hotel is very nice ! Great BF, great location, comfortable bed, good English channels on TV I did have a problem with my booking, I booked a premium king room w/ king bed I get to the room ( very nice large room )there’s 2 small beds I called to reception and she said No, I booked a double! I give her the confirmation number and she said no again. Finally came to the room to take a picture of confirmation email and said no premium king available! I ask for a refund, she said no ! ( I need big bed because of earlier hip surgery ) She offered a smaller room in the East wing w/ queen bed But no compensation for a smaller older room than what I booked. But Agoda, customer service helped me for a small refund !!

During our second stay at Rex, we had a few hiccups from room selection (room #446 did not have the view my spouse wanted) to service attitudes of staff and disinformation but the management team promptly addressed those issues. We hope a protocol is set up to avoid potential similar concerns. Thank you Vy, Tam and Phuong for a rapid response. Hotel is central and close to everything with dynamic atmosphere during the day but tranquil at night. Many festivities on Nguyen Hue Blvd at nigh. Sightseeing bus is literally across the street. Breakfast buffet is fantastic. Rooftop bar has great view of the city with live music every night. Swimming pool, spa and gym are sparkling clean. We will stay again.

Pro: Luxary hotel with good breakfast. Con: Cleanliness arn the outdoor area (pool) could be better - there was lots fo birds and droppings. Pro: Location is amazing (near public transport, events and attractions near by, lots of cute cafes within walking distance). Con: Room booking was for one king bed but duirng check in we were ibformed no room with king bed was available and were five two seperat sngle beds - whats the point for paying extra for a specifoc room type if not endured to be available during check in? But they corrected for 2nd night stay- had to repack and move mid stay.
My aunt and I stayed here for 3 nights. Our stay here made our first time in Ho Chi Minh so memorable. The staff is very friendly and helpful (11/10 hospitality). The breakfast was delicious and there were so many options (Vietnamese food and Western food). The in-room food and spa services were on the pricer side. The hotel had a vintage aesthetic and the courtyard was gorgeous and well-maintained. Our room did not have much light and the lighting system is a bit old but cleaning service was quick and essential toiletries were provided. They were very accommodating with early check-in and late check-out. The location was perfect (close to everything).
Rex has excellent location but it is not truly a 5 star hotel. Perhaps the services could be but its facility is dated and old fashioned although clean. The price reflects this fact so it's much less than other 5 star hotels in town.

The biggest plus point is the very centralized and convenient location. Suite is really big and spacious although the furnishings look somewhat dated. Clean and comfortable but aircon is hard to adjust; either too warm or too cold. Staff are friendly and professional except the doormen and porters who rarely greet or smile to welcome guests. Generally speaking, a comfortable and pleasant stay. Thank you.
Room was surprisingly spacious and spotlessly clean – really appreciated that. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of fresh and tasty choices.Only downside: the room faced the main street and it was quite noisy, even at night (bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper).Still solid value and I’d return, just asking for a quieter room next time.
The room itself was very clean and comfortable. The wooden furniture wasn't to my taste but that's a preference only. Plenty of variety at breakfast. The lobby area is super fancy, then you enter the guest area and it goes downhill. The carpet on the stairs is like something I haven't seen since the 80s. The pools looked lovely but unfortunately pigeons had claimed one as bathing ground.

The best location in District 1, central and right on Nguyễn Huệ Walking Street. While the hotel shows some signs of age, its architecture is elegance and stands as an iconic symbol of Ho Chi Minh City. The staff are exceptionally well trained, friendly, and consistently provide top notch service. The breakfast buffet is outstanding with abundant and diverse offering for everyone. I’ve stayed here several times and highly recommend this hotel.
I've been staying at the Rex since 1990. Back then, this was the place to stay. 5 star meant exactly that. I've watched the place degrade over the years. Of course, there was a "misunderstanding " that cost me an additional $150. Yeah...okay. We got an older room. A bit threadbare, but clean. The staff remain friendly, but there's a different vibe. Thank you Rex, but there are plenty of other hotels around that offer better value for quality. This will be my final stay here I think. Not really a complaint.... but the writing is on the wall. In my view, thus should be listed as a 3*.

The location of this hotel is excellent—right in the city centre and within walking distance to City Hall, the Opera House, and Ben Thanh Market. It’s very convenient for sightseeing and getting around. The hotel is aging gracefully and still maintains its charm. When checking in, do remember to ask whether your room has a view, as not all rooms do. There can be a slight language barrier at times, but it’s easy to overlook when you experience the warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming nature of the staff. Their hospitality really makes you feel comfortable. Breakfast was nice and consistently filling, a good way to start the day before heading out to explore the city. Overall, a pleasant stay with a great location and kind service
We stay here for 2 nights. Love the atmosphere, felt like I went back in time. Every where you look you can see a piece of history. My room was very comfortable, especially the bed, my aching back love it. We will stay again. Great service all around. Highly recommend 👌

We wanted to stay at the Rex for our last night in HCMC to do something a little “fancy”. It was nice and charming however definitely needs some love and a new coat of paint in some areas. We had a premium room which I thought only had two twin beds but turned out to be two full doubles or queens which was great. Bathroom was very large with a bath tub which was also a highlight. The view was of pipes and walls but no problem. Breakfast was wonderful, a great buffet. The pool area had nothing wrong with it but wasn’t an overly appealing area visually but did have sun lounges which was nice to sit by on our last day as it was very hot. Overall the hotel and our experience was totally fine I just think the hotel overall needs some love and a bit of an update.

Pros: Perfect location especially if it’s your first time to Saigon. Easy to walk to the market, opera house, post office, and palace. Comfortable bed Clean room and bathroom Welcoming, helpful staff. Easy to change currency at front desk Nice breakfast with option to sit inside or outside Cons: Can be more expensive than other hotels in the same class. Be careful when booking to see which type of room you’ll get. The lower-priced rooms available on booking sites are likely to be on the inside of the hotel with no view. While my room was still nice, the window was frosted because it looked out into an unattractive interior area, so it was really no different than being in a windowless room. You can often get a room with a beautiful view at the Continental or Majestic for a comparable rate although I’d say the interiors at the Rex are more comfortable than the Continental. Shower controls were a bit complicated.
The Rex is a grand old hotel in a prime location. Food and service are excellent, as is the cleanliness, quality of linen, pillows etc. The only shame is the old girl is starting to show her age. Small cracks, marks on walls and paint beginning to fade. Little things like no smart tv's or access to Netflix or other streaming services. If you like the nostalgic feel of a grand old hotel, then the Rex is for you. The cherry on the cake is the 6th floor cigar bar. Wonderful selection of cigars and a proper gentlemen's club feel. Overall, loved the Rex. It was my third time staying there and won't be my last
Bed sheets, couch covers, towels are super clean. We came back to the same room (after a few days out of town), and were impressed how clean the room was. they even gave us the freshly clean bed SKIRT. Sofa covers and decorative pillow covers are freshly washed as well. Breakfast is superb! Americano coffee is a real treat at REX! Staff is excellent, very cordial and proficient in English. I have a history of cervical disc replacement, and REX provided a neck pillow and body pillow to ensure my utmost comfort. Room for improvement? A washer and dryer? (LOL) You can tell we got spoiled at REX.
The location is unbeatable with great views and easy access to shopping. The staff were exceptional, providing friendly service throughout the visit. The buffet breakfast was average and the cleaning up process could definitely use some improvements.

I have stayed in Saigon many times for both business and vacation, but never at The Rex. I have seen The Rex from various other hotel rooftops, and always thought it had an attractive aspect. I recently stayed on a business trip and was ahead of schedule, so arrived before check In time. The Front Desk staff were exceptionally helpful and led me through to the ground floor restaurant to wait. The restaurant staff were just as accommodating, while I had a coffee, then lunch while I worked on my laptop. At 2pm I went to check In, and they had covered off everything so it was a case of straight to my room, and off to the next meeting. Although my room was small, it was comfortable, clean and pleasant. The hotel is large and sprawling. I didn't even see all of the various areas, and contains an up market shopping centre. Breakfast was good, the location is great, staff were friendly and helpful. The rooftop bar/restaurant is large and a great spot to unwind at the end of the day. I highly recommend The Rex.

Our 1st time staying here and would definitely stay again. The staff was so welcoming and on top of everything. From the checkin to the cleaning team. Rooms are a bit outdated but we are only here to sleep anyways. 😅 Now let’s talk about the location… tye best location ever. Ice cream shop around the corner. High end shopping directly next to you. Massages, nails etc everything is walking distance away. We even walked home from a bar by Cho Ben Thanh under 15 mins. Can’t beat the convenience of this hotel. Ps don’t skip out on the breakfast buffet. Esp the soups. We ate every morning for 7 days and all their broths was so clean (not full of msg) and really good. 🤤

My recent stay at the Rex Hotel Saigon was truly enjoyable. From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I was greeted with warm hospitality and efficient service. I stayed in this hotel for a few nights since it seems to be at the central location. It has multiple convenience stores in the area, so it was easy to get drinks and snacks when needed. The room was spacious and clean. The bed is comfortable and big. The towels were very soft, too. One huge downside is that for a boiling hot city like Sai Gon, hotel hallway not being enclosed and shielded with air conditioning is relatively torture... same with the fitness centre... out of 4-5 air conditioner in the facitility, only one AC was turned on... I felt like I was exercising in a sauna room. The breakfast is okay, there is a noodle station and an egg station outside. I had to ask other guests of it since the staff didn't inform me about it.

I am staying at 5-star hotel, Rex Vietnam, and was overall impressed by the exceptional reception service. The front desk staff were courteous, professional, and efficient in handling my check-in and other inquiries. However, I encountered a few issues that affected my experience. When I requested a nail cutter and hair clipper, I was informed that these items were not available. While I understand that such amenities might not always be standard, I expected a 5-star hotel to either provide them or offer alternative solutions. Interestingly, a tour guide external to the hotel was able to assist me with this request. Additionally, I had to check out and check in again the next day due to a change in my travel plans. To my surprise, I was reallocated the same room, but it had not been made up or prepared for my arrival. The staff mentioned that a "Do Not Disturb" sign had been on the door, despite my having checked out. Furthermore, my bag, which had been handed to the concierge, was returned torn when brought back to the room. This was disappointing, as I expected the room to be refreshed and the luggage handled with care, especially at a property of this caliber. While the reception team exceeded my expectations, the lack of attention to these details detracted from the overall luxury experience. I hope the hotel addresses these concerns to provide a flawless stay for future guests.
Nice hotel in district 1. Great staff, nice clean environment and pretty good facilities. Hotel food and drink is of a high standard, and breakfast is particularly good. Like many hotels in Vietnam, expect to find smokers dotted around, but the hotel does seem to note that not everyone wants to be in a smoking environment.
The Rex Hotel is perfectly central to most tourist, business and entertainment. The hotel itself makes one feel you are stepping into an opulent colonial past. The staff are all very courteous and very helpful, the breakfast buffet was exceptional. The view and ambience from the rooftop bar were spectacular, but with prices to match. My one complaint is with the room I was given. The Deluxe room that I booked is advertised as being 30 m2, but mine (319) was nowhere near that, and the bathroom was cramped. Looking at the fire escape plan on the corridor wall it was obvious that all other rooms were larger.

Stayed in Rex Suite on east wing. 1st night very comfortable because perhaps neighboring rooms were empty. On 2nd night, had noisy neighbors and could hear the ruckus through the walls. Also in the morning, when people in adjacent room were taking a shower, could hear the running water sound. Room wallpaper was showing wear and tear. Service and staff at reception and in breakfast restaurant were very good.
rex hotel is suitably located near most of the attractions and close tp (waling distance) of the shopping areas of ben tanh market, saigon centre and saigon square. there are also many eateries nearby not so impressed with the staff though, having come from a boutique hotel in hanoi where the staff greets all with a small and good morning and even when we asked about the laundry we were told "didnt you see the laundry list in your room?"...at the hanoi hotel, it was plesantly explained to us the options for laundry service.... the housekeeping was also touch and go, 1 day our pyjamas were folded and nicely placed on the bed, the rest of the days there were just thrown on the top of a nearby desk in the room..(by the way we had a suite room) overall, if you ask me, good for location but if you looking for plesant stay and staff interactions, stay somewhere else...the place is just too cold for a suposedly5-star hotel (and i dont mean the aircon temperature)
Loved the old world charm of this beautiful hotel. The location couldn’t be better. Excellent welcome at check in. Room was large , bed and pillows wonderful. Breakfast too was amazing! Would highly recommend!
4 night stay at Rex Hotel Saigon. It's terrific, no complaints at all. The room is comfortable, the staff are helpful, great location, great Agoda price, breakfast buffet OK. Free 15 minute massage coupon at the hotel spa and complimentary mini bar. I highly recommend this hotel, I will come back here for sure.

Beautiful frontage exterior and foyer incorporporating high end fashion retail shops. The whole inner exterior needs a facelift particularly pool area. Gym is little used so could be half sized and incorporate a bar/coffee bar?Rooms are looking a little tired but still nice. Lacks attention to detail. Such as minimal supply of tea,sugar, coffee in room. Bar fridge is in the dressing table, not the minibar cabinet. Staff and breakfast are outstanding! Breakfast is the highlight! Bar and restaurant prices are on par with Sydney. Overall, nice though a little tired and overpriced.
Staff was professional and courteous. Location was great - everything was within 10 minutes of every direction. Room was clean for the most part - a little bit of dirty tiling in the shower but nothing too distracting. My only complaint was that I was located on the 5th floor which is also where the rooftop bar is, the pool and the gym. Lots of traffic going back and forth and can be difficult to sleep, if you're an early sleeper. Otherwise, it's a nice hotel and would recommend.

It's location is premier, right at the corner of Le Loi and Nguyen Hue Streets. On Sunday 22/12/2024, there was a big ceremony happened right where the corner is. They set the roundabout as an open stage to show all performances, including parades, martial arts demonstration, etc. There are always crowd of people wandering down on the medium strips. It's only a few minutes to walk to Vincom, a big shopping mall with supermarket and restaurants on B2 level with a lot of varieties. You can start walking from here along Nguyen Hue street down to the Saigon river, or along Le Loi street to the Ben Thanh market on one end or the Opera house at the other. Breakfasts are exceptional good, together with the friendly staff like Ms. Duyen (captain), Mr Thai (deputy chef), and waiter Ms. Linh, Ms Thi etc. We will definitely book our next trip with Rex.
Best location for going to visit Saigon first time. It’s not a full AC hotel because the hall way is opened air and hot humid from the elevator. Love hardwood floor but lighting control is outdated. No bidet toilet which is very popular in Asia now. I stayed on the fourth floor under the outdoor rooftop restaurant and cigar club, they arranged the chairs and tables until after 1000p and some early morning like 0600a. Lobby looks very nice includes all luxury goods and merchandise bran name stores. Bathroom lighting is not bright and the water glow was very slow, I needed extra time to shower. Curtains are not fully touch the floor so light could come in during daytime if you think about the dark room during day to sleep, it’s impossible. Staff are very attentive and helpful. Room cleaning staff changed everyday not the same person, so what we needed must be communicated to staff almost everyday. Breakfast was great in Vietnamese food and tropical fruits but not good with western choices. Again, it’s really perfect for the first visit to Saigon, once you know your way well, I’d rather stay in a close by serviced apartment with modern amenities.
A really great destination. I am completely satisfied coming here. All staff from security, cleaning staff & English speaking receptionists are friendly, courteous & professional. Although the building is bit old, the hotel is historical, elegant, beautiful and clean. The room is clean & luxurious. Awesome free breakfast was delicious in rich style. The best part is the location- the center of the Ho Chi Minh City, in front of the Nguyen Hue Plaza. Value for money. I plan to come back here again with my family.
Stayed at Rex Hotel Saigon and it was a memorable experience from start to finish. The hotel has a charming old-money vibe that really sets it apart, and its central location makes it incredibly convenient for exploring the city. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-kept. While some of the facilities feel a bit outdated, everything is clearly well-maintained, which still makes for a pleasant stay. What truly stood out was the staff—excellent, professional, and attentive throughout. We did encounter an issue where the air conditioning on our floor broke down, but it was impressively resolved within 30 minutes. To top it off, the hotel went the extra mile by compensating us with a complimentary airport transfer, which was a very thoughtful gesture. Overall, a great balance of classic charm and reliable service. I would definitely come back again.
Rex Hotel has the best location, walking distance to Ben Thanh market. Hotel interior / design is a bit old. Other than that everything else was great! Staffs are very friendly & attentive. Definitely value for money.
