Little warm home during solo travel”
Everything was perfect, and more than expected! I kind of expected warm and cozy atmosphere from the website - and indeed it was warm and cozy place. My room was the second floor and when I entered the room- I took in the view from the window — the image of “Amsterdam” (for me at least!) and there was a small bottle or red wine and an apple in a basket. (💗) Very comfortable bed (very clean), easy to use bathroom (and clean), clean linen. Especially— the staff were so kind and friendly. The common space was also clean and comfortable to stay. I felt the warm hospitality. the staff works sincerely from hearts (I think that is why I felt home) the breakfast was delicious :) I wished to stay longer — and I would love to stay again!
More like a Hostel than Hotel”
Very disappointed, do not understand the positive reviews. We travel quite a bit, this was our 9th European Hotel in 1 year so definitely feel our expectations are not unreasonable. I’ll start w/the positive: lovely street & good location for hopping on the Tram. One stop away from the Museum Area, 2 stops from the Leidseplein Square, about 30 minutes to Central Station area and walking to several decent restaurants. Bathrooms were clean. Not so positive: As soon as we entered we noticed the stairs to the rooms were very dirty & littered. Stairs are extremely narrow & winding as tends to be the norm for Amsterdam, but because of minimal staff, it was up to us to get 2 50lb bags to/from our room. Our room (top floor & warm)had no A/C, just a dirty fan which spread the dirt/dust into the room. Windows did not block out street noise so keeping them opened was not an option. Bathroom was so tiny we had to edge around the sink to get to toilet & the shower curtain was short, constantly drenching the floor. Shower was so close to the sink that I could only use the sink while in a towel if my husband was showering because I’d get wet. No fan in bathroom.Towels were thread bare, scarce, and had stains, whether toothpaste, bleach, not sure. No mini frig. One evening we returned to our room at 9PM after a 12 hr day, and had to get up by 6AM to catch a next day train. We had NO towels, not even a hand towel. Went downstairs & were told 45 minutes. Staff leaves at 10, a few minutes before 10 we headed downstairs to get towels and got attitude from person at front desk. Got towels & toilet paper which we also had NONE of. If we didn’t get it, it wouldn't have been sent up and no one’s at front desk until 7:30 AM. Needless to say, got to bed much later & dealt w/issues no one should have to deal with on vacation. We checked out to catch our train, returning a few days later to another of their rooms. We actually added another night to our other location, eating an already paid for night at Neighbours Magnolia b/c we dreaded going back. While the bathroom in the new room was slightly larger, it was not large enough to keep the floor from getting drenched, had a floor A/C unit which was nice & a balcony to the courtyard so no road noise. Luckily we were only there for less than 12 hours before returning to the U.S. b/c the room had no closet, armoire or bureau, only 3 wall hooks to hang clothes, otherwise had to live out of your luggage. Not an environment we felt comfortable coming back to after long days of traveling/touring.
Fantastic Location”
Stayed for the Amsterdam Marathon - 2-3k warm-up jog to the start which was perfect for me. Nice neighbourhood with plenty of cafes/restaurants with outside seating. The park is a couple of minutes away, the museums a pleasant five-ten min walk away. Took the bus from the airport to the corner of Emmastraat, which was great value and efficient. Nervous about knowing where to get off but the bus announces the name of each stop so it was very easy (and obviously great value. You buy the ticket from a little van outside the airport). The stop is 500m from the hotel though so might be an issue if you have lots of bags. Didn't have breakfast at the hotel as I knew I'd be jetlagged and up (and hungry) at 3am but was still able to use the excellent coffee machine for free. Rooms are basic but clean.
Value for Money”
If you are looking for a clean room for a relatively low price, you will enjoy this hotel. The staff is welcoming and nice, the rooms are clean. There were a couple of problems with the room: Cheaper rooms were built on the roof of the hotel and you have to climb a narrow attic staircase to get the rooms. Almost impossible with luggage. Upper rooms are very hot (although there's a portable AC in the room). Water pressure in the pipes was low. TV did not work.
Great quiet location ”
The location was a very quiet part of Amsterdam which was nice to escape the busy centre. Very close to the easily accessible tram stop. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room was very spacious! Would definitely stay again.
