“Experience was good, not great.”
Having worked at a 4 diamond hotel on the Las Vegas Strip for 11+ years, 6 of which were at the front desk, I can say this property is not 4 diamond, and does not seem to strive to be- maybe the employees are just burned out and not being paid enough, which they ought to be with all the charges and high prices. With that said, however, nearly everyone I encountered was super friendly and kind, except for literally the last employee, which was from the Bell Desk- sorry I ran out of cash and he had to bring 2 small backpacks, a lunchbox and a weekend bag to me- had I a third hand I would have carried them out myself, but with just myself and two young children, I was out numbered (he'll be alright, but with a kinder and more compassionate demeanor, I'm sure it would go better for him, he's the only one who made me feel like a dollar with two legs, rather than a human being, and a mother trying her best and came up a few bucks short. ANYWAYS!). If you drive and park you will start to feel the nickle and diming from the moment you park- $25 self parking per 24 hours, Resort fee is nearly $60 per night, the pool is open, but you have to rent the inner tube for $30 if you want to relax in their lazy river, and if you need air blown back in it's another $10. The grill they have to serve food there is ridiculously priced: $66 for a hot dog, a small club sandwich and a double cheeseburger (all served with fries, no drink included)!!! I wanted to get a small Sprite for my son in the food court... $6. If you're a baller or high roller, then that's all pocket change, but trying to sell rooms at a great rate, just to tuck them dry with everything else, just sucks the fun out of the majority of us trying to get out of the house, change the scenery and atmosphere, and have a nice time with the family (I'm a local, and most definitely and unfortunately NOT a baller or high roller, lol!) Referring back to my hotel room experience, the front desk representative checking me in saw that I was with my two children (one with special needs) and instead of asking or confirming what kind of room would be most accommodating for me, she literally gave me a room a few rooms from the very end of the hall, and for a hotel with 5,000+ rooms, the halls are very, very, endlessly long, and the room was with just one king sized bed- I slept horribly, and not just because of my kids, but the pillows were too thick and firm, so my neck was at a very uncomfortable angle, and we woke up to a bug bit on my upper knee and one on my son's cheek near his lip- I don't think it was bed bugs, so don't freak out, but, Vegas has people coming in and out from all over, so you never know- we've had to put several rooms in out of order on several occasions where I worked, which used to be, as aforementioned, a 4- diamond property... bugs don't discriminate), anyhow, my leg itches. Aside from all my personal qualms, being I have and gave high standard service, when I was in the hospitality industry, this hotel/casino really does have it all! If money is something you use as toilet paper or facial tissue (which, in the hotel's defense, most, if not nearly all strip hotels assimilate each other, so if MGM Grand is like this, then I am sure most all of them are), and you are an easy sleeper, whether on a brick or marshmallow, then you will love this place! It is full of options for dining, entertainment, and has a popular nightclub. The pool area is huge, which, as mentioned earlier, includes a lazy river, plenty of bars, and a "grill." The bathroom facility at the pool.... let's just say I turned around and headed out, lol. I can say, classy, high standard Las Vegas seems to be a thing of the past, at least at this property- you will find all walks of life here: the good, the bad, and the ugly... just like my review!
