Good Budget Option for Morioka (unless you are tall)”
As part of my first trip to Japan, I planned a weeklong itinerary to visit the Tohoku region to attend festivals in early August. Two of the most famous of these, Nebuta in Aomori and Kanto in Akita, seem to strain the capacity of hotels in their respective cities, so booking overnight stays during that time is difficult and comparatively expensive. So, to address that difficulty, I decided to book 5 nights in Morioka, which is the central railroad hub for the northern Tohoku region, and take day trips for festival attendance. For this purpose, Unizo Inn Express Morioka was extremely handy. It is a budget hotel, so don't expect a great many creature comforts. I stayed in a twin bedroom room, and the space afforded is what one would expect from a Japanese hotel. The mattress is very firm, and I could see many people finding it uncomfortable, although I often sleep on the floor myself and prefer hard mattresses, so it suited me fine. Only one pillow is provided, which is fairly small. You might be able to get another if you ask, but bringing a pillow of your own might also be prudent if you have the space. The Wi-Fi signal seemed strong for the most part, although there were a couple of times where coverage was spotty, which might have been because I was on the far side of the hotel on the 5th floor. For the most part, no issues there. Also provided are two coat hangers on a small rack, a plastic shoe horn, daily fresh towels (hung on your door around 10 or so in the morning), a desk with a single pen, stationary, and phone, a small TV, a mini-fridge (unstocked and unplugged when you first come in), and some tourist literature for the local area. There is no luggage stand, no closet or dresser, no iron and board. I should also take some time to specifically mention: the bathroom is small and ditto to the bed. I am 5'7" (170 cm), so somewhat short by American standards, and so I had no issue with either of these things, but if you are much taller than 5'10" (177 cm) then I think you will find the bathroom claustrophobic. I think the floor-to-ceiling clearance in the bathroom is pretty close to 6 ft (182 cm) and I don't know that those that height or taller would be able to stand fully upright in the shower, and your feet might stick off the edge of the bed. Of course, as a Japanese bathroom, it is equipped with a bath and a floor drain, so if you don't mind showering and bathing in the Japanese style, or going to onsen for personal hygiene, this might not be a deal breaker, but do take care. As for service, I would say it is solid. Staff were helpful, English language ability was pretty good (if you need that), and while check-in doesn't begin until 3, if you arrive early the hotel is happy to hold your bag while you go out to explore the town. There is coin operated laundry downstairs, though it takes a long time to dry and you might need to babysit your laundry for multiple cycles. Please don't make the mistake I did and leave your laundry for an extended period in the machine, as the staff may have to collect it. I forgot mine, and was rightly chided for it by reception (who still put the clothes in a plastic for me and returned them). I cannot comment on the hotel restaurant and cafe as I did not go, but I wouldn't expect anything remarkable, especially compared to in-town dining options. Iwate-ken's wankosoba is quite famous, so give it a try while you're here. Locationwise, I would say the hotel is very convenient IF you want to use to train/bus station regularly. Since I was making day-trips for most of my stay this was a very good fit for me, since I could leave only 10-15 minutes before my train's departure time and reliably make it on-board (though I'd leave earlier if you need to buy tickets the day of, as the self-service machines are busy in the middle of the day). However, if you are mostly staying in Morioka proper then it is quite a walk by foot to get to the town center. So while staying here worked very wel
Unizo Inn Express”
The hotel price is competitive with other hotel in the area. Hotel located next to JR Morioka Shinkansen Station. It is about a five minutes walk from the station to the hotel. There are numerous restaurants & cafes and a large department store located within the JR station. The hotel room is small & the bed is also small for two people but the bathroon is new & clean. There was no complimentary coffee or tea. Cups & glasses are not available in the room. The hotel offered a simple but delicious complementary breakfast - bacon, scramble eggs & salad & your choice of a croissant or toast. However it would have been nice if there was a change of menu instead of having the same menu everyday.
I impress the maid”
I put the tag as 'do not disturb' . because I live for short period. I would like maid to relax. haha normally other hotel will just not clean the room. However, this hotel put a set of clean towels in to white plastic bag and hang at the rooms' door. very high attention. The room is new and clean. For my room, the bed is for 1 person
