“A Serene Hakone Escape with Impeccable Service and Incredible Onsen”
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this traditional ryokan in Hakone. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm hospitality. Special thanks to the younger gentleman who spoke English fluently and took care of us from check-in to check-out — his attentiveness and kindness made our stay even more enjoyable. The staff throughout the ryokan were uniformly courteous, helpful, and graceful. We were always escorted wherever we needed to go, whether it was to our room, the dining area, or the elevator. The complimentary shuttle service to and from the station is a huge plus — especially since the walk up can be steep for those not physically strong. That said, we walked ourselves and found it manageable — around 15 minutes uphill. The shuttle ride is a quick 5 minutes. The highlight of our stay was definitely the **kaiseki meals** — a beautifully presented dinner and breakfast, showcasing local ingredients with delicate flavors and seasonal charm. Every course was thoughtfully prepared, making it a true culinary experience. The **private onsen baths** were a luxurious treat. There are three different open-air baths with views of the mountains and town, each bookable in 45-minute sessions on the hour — make sure to reserve your time at check-in. We thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful, scenic soak. The **public onsen** facilities are equally lovely. Inside, there are three different baths and a refreshing cold water bath. Outside, there’s a round open-air bath. The men’s outdoor bath had a stunning view of a blooming cherry blossom tree, while the women’s outdoor bath looked out onto greenery — not quite as scenic, but still relaxing. While the facilities are on the older side and some sound can carry through the walls at night, the tranquil atmosphere seemed to encourage all guests to be quiet and respectful, so we never felt disturbed. All in all, this ryokan offered us a serene, rejuvenating experience with exceptional service and charming details. We wouldn’t hesitate to return.

“Doting staff”
As a solo traveler, I sometimes feel self-conscious visiting such a fancy place. The staff did their best to make me feel comfortable. Most spoke enough English to help me, and even to explain the complex dinner menus to me. I found the food somewhat underwhelming for the price. Presentation was *wow*, very fancy. Flavor was hit or miss. Sometimes it felt like the dishes were choosing presentation at the expense of flavor. I enjoyed the pacing of the meals and how relaxed and quiet the dining room was. I did not have as restful of a stay as I would have liked. My room seemed to be positioned next to some kind of utilities, and every night the noise made it hard to sleep. It was like someone turned up the bass on their music too high. Thump...thump...thump... I could both hear and feel it. The outdoor bath attached to my room was amazing.

“Great services!”
Staff are very polite. We arrived on a rainy day, they came out with umbrella to greet us. That was impressed. We have the staff at Tourist Information Centre to call the hotel upon arrival at Hakone Yomoto Station. A green shuttle bus came in 5 minutes to pick us up. Our room included breakfast & dinner. But we were told by the hotel that there's no meal for our 8 years old old. We had to pre-order meals for him for JPY5,500. The adult meals are very good though. Hotel location is good. It taks around 15 mins to walk down to train station. Other than onsen, it doesn't have family activities or free snacks for kids. Overall, we had a good stay in this hotel.

Private onsen available for booking with fee, allowing choice for privacy that makes the experience more enjoyable Exquisite japanese breakfast and dinner that comes with a wide selection of items that are fresh and delicious. Great service by staff, from the point of arrival till the end of stay. Accomadaring, polite, friendly and pat attention to details such as looking after our child with special needs. The luggage delivery arrangement was also exceptional that they even helped filled up the paperwork for us.

“Great experience ”
We loved our time at Aura Tachibana. The room was spacious, clean and had a nice view of the town. We had one with a private onsen which was great. Kaiseki dinner and breakfast was a great experience. Food the second night was more delicious. It would have been great if the staff explained a little more about the facilities and options. I knee from friends that we could wear our yukatas to the dinner, but would have been nice for the staff to tell us and show us where they were. Would have liked the staff to offer to make futon bed for the experience, we just slept in the western style beds. Shuttle bus available in the morning every half an hour, and in the afternoon from 2-5:45pm. Otherwise short walk (from town it is up hill) or $6AUD taxi ride.

“Love to stay”
It was my first experience to stay a Japanese Ryokan. I enjoyed the hot spring. I really love to have the room has Private Open-Air Bath. Also dinner and breakfast were so great. Next time, I want to stay more longer like 3 days and 2 nights. Hokone is a good area for relaxing and sight-watching. Aura Tachibana is a good place to stay - very kind staff and good and clean facilities. I think you will not regret to select this hotel.

“Quite old, pictures don't reflect reality”
This hotel was the most expensive of our whole Japan trip. Sure, it includes dinner & breakfast and Onsen but then it didn't age that well and we definitely had nicer hotels. The hotel is generally well maintained and clean, however, it looks like it got stuck about 50 years ago. It's not even traditional per set just old-fashioned. The food was good though and staff is nice. Be prepared for a huge Asian breakfast. Was almost too much for us to handle. Overall

“Loved it”
The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the train station. Please keep in mind that the 20 minutes walk would be up the steep hill, so if you don't feel like climbing , get a taxi. It's only 5 minutes ride. The rooms are very clean. We ordered a room Japanese style futon beds and buckwheat hull pillows They were a little too firm to sleep on, but we wanted that experience, so we liked it a lot. Their blankets are amazing. You feel as if you sleep under a soft, warm, light cloud. Our package included breakfast and dinner. Their food is delectable, savory, delicious, palatable, inviting, tantalizing, It was unbelievable ! Every breakfast and dinner were 8 course-meals. My compliments to the chef! They also offer free morning shuttle to the train station. Hotel may look a little run down inside, but it's very authentic. We loved every moment. Thank you.

“Excellent service and amazing food”
My best friend and I really enjoyed our stay at Ryokan Aura Tachibana. The staff welcomed us warmly and their service was really excellent. The facilities are a bit old and dated (the hallways and elevators in particular), but the room, private bath, and the public baths were all immaculately clean and taken care of so it didn't affect our stay at all. The food included in the kaiseki dinner and the breakfast were, frankly, life changing haha. We enjoyed practically everything served to us. The location is up in the mountains, in an area that's quite far from the downtown area. There was 1 convenience store that was a bit of a walk away that we saw, so if you want snacks, etc. from the store, prepare these in advance since it might be difficult to buy such things when you're there.

“Hakone base camp for exploring!”
Excellent elevated set meal for dinner and breakfast provided. All staff were very helpful and courteous, going above and beyond. Scheduling private onsen was easy and the onsen facilities are wonderful after a long day of sightseeing. Great and frequent shuttle to/from nearby train station. A perfect platform for exploring the area and/or just relaxing at a ryokan with a hot spring onsen.

“Excellent”
I had an amazing experience at this hotel. The place is not only nice, but it's also exceptionally clean and aesthetically pleasing. The highlight for me was the private open-air bath, which was absolutely gorgeous. The drive path to the hotel was convenient and easy to navigate, and there was a parking lot located nearby, making it very convenient for guests. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a memorable and enjoyable stay. The food is good as well.

“Eccezionale”
We got the room with the private bath, the view of the mountains is breathtaking while soaking in the day time. You really get what you paid for. We had a semi private dining area, and breakfast and dinner were exceptional. My friend had a request which the staff took the time to get for her. We were amazed by the exceptional service! Travel wise, it was convenient with the hotel shuttle to and from the Hakone Yumoto Station. There is also a bus covered in the Hakone free pass which stops 2 mins away from the ryokan. 10/10 recommend

“Relaxing 2 night stay”
Check in was smooth. Nice Ryokan and room was big. Wash happy to see the cherry blossom tree right in front of us when we opened the window. Place was quiet and onsen is not crowded. Both breakfast and dinner were good. Excellent service given by waiters and waitresses

“Excellent Ryokan!”
Stayed 1 night in Aug 2024. Public onsen was relatively empty and could use it alone most of the time. Dinner and breakfast service in the banquet hall. We were served by Sunita who provided excellent service and made us feel very welcomed. Japanese style room was spacious and could definitely fit a family comfortably. Overall excellent stay in Hakone!

“Great breakfast ”
Had an enjoyable 3 nights stay. Ryokan is very clean. They provided yutaka for children for the public bath facility. Breakfast is great with different variety everyday. The only down side is the location as its located on a very steep mountain. They provide free shuttle service to Hakone-Yumoto station but only till noon time. For the journey back to the hotel, we took a taxi from Hakone Yumoto Station which cost about 600 yen. I highly recommend to take the taxi if u are carrying luggage and having children. We tried walking up once without our luggage and it was quite tedious. Overall had an enjoyable stay and would really recommend this to my friends.

“Old and smelly”
Don’t book Japanese style room here, they are old, never renovated and the smell of 50 years old cushions and carpets is beyond. Their onsen is the same. Diner was good, breakfast you can come latest 8.30. The only thing that deserves compliment is staff. Japanese western style room are better and have been renovated.

“Breakfast ”
The traditional breakfast was esthetic and accurate but it was based on goods that for western are less known or being eaten. Therefore we suggest to offer alternative western breakfast. By the way, the dinner was based on the same concept and it was very tasty and interesting

“Helpful staff & great food ”
The hotel offers shuttle pickup at Yumoto train station and its staffs are super helpful to guide me through the sightseeing nearby. Both the dinner and breakfast are delicious. The only regret is the onsen is free on public ones.

“Great experience!”
We got free upgrade to a room with private bath. Room is quite big with nice bathroom that can enjoy the view at the same time. The dining experience was also outstanding with great food and very friendly staff. Hotel provides free shuttle bus but you have to arrive at main station before 5:30pm and call the hotel directly, otherwise the way is bit far. Overall really exceeded our expectation!

“Nice enough room, disappointing food”
The room was nice and we appreciated the private tub in the room. However, the food was incredibly sub-par. Not bad by any means , but for the price would have expected something much more elevated with higher quality ingredients.

“Outdoor Private Onsen a Must”
My husband and I stayed here two nights and all other reviews were spot on - especially the food being better on the second day. The rooftop private onsen is a must to rent if your room does nor have its own.

Our stay was enjoyable. The only negative is there wasn’t diet accommodations especially for children, but I was aware of that prior to arrival. Great stay for couples, friends and children who would eat anything.

“Amazing stay in a private onsen room”
It was an amazing experience to have stayed in a private onsen room for one night with such a wonderful Kaiseki dinner and breakfast meals. Great value for money and excellent services. It was a plus that the hotel offers a drop off services to the train station. We will definitely revisit Ryokan Aura Tachibana if we are back in Hakone. Thank you for such a welcoming stay.

“Not as good as expected ”
Our experience was not as good as expected. The dinner was only fair at most, and the rooms were pretty old. The only good thing was the service was good as all staffs were very friendly and nice. But lost likely won't be going to this hotel when visiting next time

“Wonderful lovely stay ”
The staff are attentive. They notice I was traveling with an elderly, the lady that showed us our room, immediately went and got a western style chair for my mother to sit on in the room. My 2nd time here and i had a great time and truely enjoyed the food that was served, the view and the onsen. The room was specious and the view from the balcony in the room, I could chill that all day. We’ll be back.
