Best hidden gem in Hakone!”
This was the BEST FIND in Japan -- if you don't book here as a solo traveler, you have messed up. The rooms are clean and comfortable though small. But you get full access to the onsens at the luxurious Hakone Suimeisou -- do yourself a favor and look up their onsen facilities. They are STUNNING. So for this price, to get full access to the posh sister hotel, it's a STEAL! If you're in Hakone you won't spend much time in your room anyway, so who cares if it's small? Also, the room's bathroom is rather small/sterile, so I highly recommend using the awesome shower facilities in the onsens and just arranging your day to shower before or after an onsen session. Plus, it's literally less than a 5min walk to the main train and bus station, which gives you access to the rest of the area. The concierge at the main hotel gave great recommendations for authentic/reasonable places to have dinner. Thank you for an awesome experience!
Cheap, convenient but not clean”
It is cheap, it’s convenient and near the station, you can use the public bath facilities at Suimeisou, the staff were polite. However, I will not stay again. The room was not properly cleaned. Someone’s dirty socks were left on the chair, there was a long hair wrapped around the desk lamp charging cord, an empty hotel amenities plastic packaging under the desk, black mold spots in several spots on the toilet walls, the toilet bowl was rimmed with a thick brain stain, there was a short 1 cm dark hair near the bath tub. The public bath at Suimeisou was nice and clean and had a view of trees. As I was leaving the outdoors public bath, another female guest told me she had just gone into the other women’s indoors public bath and found a naked man soaking in there and was scared to go back in. When we passed by the indoors bath entrance again, another female guest was exiting the indoors public bath and said she had saw the naked man too but he had left already.
A mix of good things and points to improve”
The location is awesome and because you get to use the onsens at their poshy main hotel, the price is amazing. The room is very tiny, which isn't a problem because it looks like the Suimeisou (the main hotel) refreshed the rooms. However they could do a few things that would quickly make the room less "budget": 1. Change the tapware - the ones there look really old and seem more suited to a run-down hostel 2. Potentially just replace the bathrooms to a toilet plus shower set up with no bath. This would free up space. I am 5 foot 7 and my knees were up against the wall when I sat on the toilet. 3. Upgrade the bed head board to have electric outlets and room light control. Clearly the room's builder had a similar idea because there is a bed head board, but it is just a wooden board at the moment. 4. Raise the height of the bed to match the bed head board. It is really low right now and a higher bed would give it a more premium feel. My toilet didn't work and because I reported it on a Sunday (my first day) staff weren't able up get a plumber out. They instead gave me one of my private onsen bookings for free. The next day they were on it right away. The staff are very attentive and as someone booking a budget room and getting to enjoy premium staff service, the product presents great value.
Best hotel for solo traveler”
Very close to Hakone Yumoto station. need to check in at the main hotel in the opposite side. the room is tiny but clean. very reasonable price. Luggage can be kept in the main hotel during before / after check out time in the same day.
Ottimo”
The location of this hotel is excellent as it is literally next to the station. The room is really small and by far the smallest out of the accommodations I’ve had in Japan. The room looks abit old and the bed wasn’t the most comfortable either. It’s really affordable so I can’t complain.
