Great views but horrible rooms”
I really enjoyed their onsen pools, but the rooms are falling apart. Floor carpeting with weird spots, small bathroom with traces of mold and loose fixtures, all with a super weird smell. The door to the hotel room lacks a threshold so you are directly connected to the corridor and can easily hear anyone in it and be heard by them. Great for a day trip, but do not spend the night here.

It's my second time staying at the hotel and now it has new infinity onsen bath facilities (first time i've seen) that you shouldn't miss. I still enjoy the spectacular scene as the hotel is located by the seaside. Food is good, staffs are super nice especially those in the restaurant. I regret arriving the hotel too late.

It's ok, nothing special”
New Akao is a huge hotel -- 17 floors. Connected to another massive hotel which. A giant "resort" complex. I reserved the Royal Wing with a Japanese room. Which means you don't stay in Royal Wing (all Western style rooms), but the original hotel. It's ok, they're connected. You can use the public bath in either the old wing or the royal wing. The old one was pretty crappy. The new one was better, nice view. Not a huge variety of baths though, just an inside and an outside bath. Water was just ok. Food was included. Dinner was not bad, but not amazing. Breakfast was a buffet, and not very good. The seats in our room were stained and gross. They need to clean or replace the fabric. They have a free shuttle to their rose garden, which is nice. And a free shuttle to the train station as well. Maybe compared to other properties in Atami it's ok. But I wouldn't bother going back. It is definitely catering to the masses. If you stay, just stay one night -- more than enough.
