The property is amazing and all the rooms are non-smoking which is a big plus from me. Smoking is designated to smoking rooms on alternating floors. There is a full bathroom in addition to the private balcony room onsen and the most adorable hotel provided Japanese pajamas and yukata!! You can wear the samue and yukata when you're strolling around the property or eating in the restaurant. Japanese hotel rooms are notoriously small by Western standards, but our room at the Hakone Kowakien Ten-yu was by far the biggest room during our Japan stay. The public onsens switch from men to women every midnight, so find a way to enjoy both!! One has a gorgeous mountain view and the other a waterfall!! The nighttime view is out of the world~

Honeymoon Venue”

My experience at Hakone Kowakien TEN-YU was amazing. The room was luxurious, spacious, clean, comfy & that personal On-Sen tub at the balcony was breathtaking. Dinner was provided in utmost class with another level of fine dining Japanese style. They cater to your every need including your own Yumato for day wear & also pyjamas for night wear. They have 2 public on-sen that interchange male & female on alternate days, one was modern & the other was blending into nature. although you can't see Mt Fuji from the hotel but the experience they gave us was unforgettable. We will definitely come again & stay more than 1 night next time.

Luxurious yet modern Hakone spa hotel”

Hakone Kowakien Tenyu met my expectation in every way. We are a family of 4 and have booked 2 rooms for our stay. Our flight to Tokyo was delayed by 2 days due to Typhoon so we didn't have time to enjoy Hakone before our hotel checkin. We had a day tour in Tokyo instead and was dropped off to the hotel by our driver at 7:00pm. Due to our change in plan, we had to cancel our spa reservation at this hotel. With our reservation package, each lady/girl received a very pretty yukata kimono to wear during our stay and to bring home. We dressed and had an excellent multi course Kaiseki meal at their restaurant. Staff were attentive and provided excellent service. My daughter is allergic to fish and they designed a totally different menu for her to enjoy. After dinner, my daughters enjoyed the private spring soak in their room while I tried the public bath. It was a great experience. The whole place is zen and tranquil. The outdoor bath is an infinity pool with an excellent view. The next morning, we woke up early and enjoyed their beautiful scenery and private garden. We took lots of beautiful photos in our kimonos. Later we tried the other outdoor public bath which showcased a natural waterfall with beautiful rocks surrounding the area. Our skin and hair felt so smooth and glowing after the bath. Their multicourse breakfast in Japanese and Western styles were both excellent. You can tell that they put an effort in ensuring guests have a good experience here. Reception staff helped us arranged a taxi transfer to the train station. Everything went well. Their gift shop carries lots of local and private brand products which are all reasonably priced. I bought all my Hakone souvenirs from here. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Hakone. I feel refreshed after the night. Next time I will try their spa service.

Beautiful Hotel with Great Services!”

My husband and I had really enjoyed our stay at TEN-YU. The hotel is located on top of the mountain with amazing view. The room is spacious and nice with great view. The public onsens are superb especially the outdoor onsen facing the water fall. There is shutter bus service to the bus exchange and some attractions in Hakone. Dinner and the buffet breakfast have been awesome. We totally enjoyed our stay at TEN-YU. Highly recommended.

Excellent”

THE food was excellent and the onsen was good and we got upgraded to the highest level of this hotel. We were mother & daughter travelling to stay at this Hakone onzen Ten Yu and When we first checked in they gave us a room facing the road level and I was not happy and requested to change . Initially the staff says no more room available but i was still not happy and so I go down to the front desk and request for change or upgrade.. After my outing to the GORA area and return to the hotrel around evening 6.00 p.m. the front desk reception staff informed us that they have rooms on the upper floor and face different mountain view. At least, they meet our request and my trip was enjoyable & happy. Thank you to TEN YU management for the upgrade.

Exceptional”

The views at Ten-Yu were amazing. The rooms and facilities were nice & clean. The staff was attentive and helpful. *There were English speakers on hand - do that helped, a lot. **Dinner is about $150 per person (We had the choice between either shabu shabu or yakiniku.) I would recommend buying food from the restaurants before catching the hotel bus to Ten-Yu or eating at the hotel bar/lounge.

The best resort hotel so far”

The services of the staff is so damn good. They welcome us in the parking lot and help us bring our luggage. When you finish check in the staff show you all the facilities that the hotel has. The staff also ask us about our food for dinner, if there are allergies with Japanese food or not, ect. The room so fantastic, it has a mountain view, private bath, large and comfy bed. We felt that hotel is spoiling our honeymoon. At the end of the stay the staff also help is find a shuttle bus to get back to the station. What a marvelous hotel Ten Yu is.

Quiet Luxury With a Killer View”

I knew our stay at TEN-YU was going to be nice, but it exceeded my expectations. The entire property, from the lobby to the garden, had this perfect blend of elegance and approachability. Sleek, contemporary decor and attentive staff contributed to the hotel's luxury factor, yet we never felt uncomfortable or unwelcome. The outdoor onsen overlooking the mountains was incredible, as was the private tub on our balcony. All in all, it was a pretty unforgettable experience.

Amazing rooftop Onsen overviewing the mountains and enjoyable outdoor Onsen with stunning waterfall. Everything is so delicate, the room is tidy and clean. The cuisine is really tasty and staffs are very nice and helpful, really enjoy the time in Ten-Yu!

Easy access with hotel bus from Gora station. Love the in room hotspring bath. Hospitality is excellent. Great mountainous view, feel so relax on my 3 days stay in Ten-Yu

My stay here was worth every dollar I spent! It is everything you expect from a luxury stay. The food is amazing and uses very high quality ingredients. The facilities are generous and convenient. The room is high luxurious and feels like a home rather than a hotel room. Having your own personal open air bath is very nice. The public baths are large, high quality and relaxing. The staff are very attentive, welcoming and accommodating. The location is further away from the main areas of Hakone but public transport makes it easy enough to get around.

We checked in for a mid week stay to sightsee in Hakone. The staff were very welcoming and attentive and we felt very confident in the hotel's necessary coronavirus control measures. The room was spacious and well appointed with beautiful views. We loved the lobby porch looking over the waterfall for morning coffee. I strongly recommend you drive to this hotel.

one of the best hotel ive stayed in japan and prolly the best in Hakone area. the room onsen was superb! one more thing i love about this hotel is..The Foooodddd!! make sure to book half board with breakfast and dinner because their food is amaaazingly great! the service was also excellent! will def. come back soon!!

Modern onsen hotel ”

We were very satisfied with our stay. The onsens were great, and the bathtub on the balcony was especially lovely. Breakfast was awesome, lot of variety. Our only gripe was that the garden was closed due to the damage sustained during a previous typhoon. Also, public transportation is terrible, luckily there's a shuttle bus but it takes some time to get to Gora; cathing a taxi is not easy either in our experience. Hakone is lovely but there were not much to do after dark except soaking in the baths.

A good stay”

We enjoyed our time in Hakone despite the weather (end of Typhoon Jebi). The hotel was very good and the onsen was great after a long day. Breakfast set menu was brilliant but identical each day so asked for something different on 3rd and4th mornings and staff very accommodating. A very bad experience at hotel Teppanyakki when chef decided to clean plate midway through eating creating acrid smoke and causing severe eye and throat irritation and had to leave meal and restaurant to seek relief (but was still charged for meal!). Close to bus stop which was helpful.

Hotel with great ambience, superb rooms.”

We had a very pleasant two nights stay. The room was big enough to fit all 4 of us (2 adults, a teenager and a five years old), also very clean. The location of the hotel is a bit remote, so it's best rent a car, otherwise it would be very hard to get around if you wish to do some sightseeing. Some reviews says the food is not good but we enjoyed both the breakfast and dinner very much. It's a bit pricey but could just be because of the Chinese New Year period. Definitely would come back if we visit Hakone again.

Very friendly staff, very thoughtful and kind”

A little bit hard to get to. Hotel Shuttles arent very frequent. But relatively easy to bus around with Hakone free pass. May be tough if you have lots of luggage.

The most spacious ryoken feel set in the quiet mountains of Hakone. The highest recommendation!
