Stayed for 5 days including New Year's Day. The facilities and services were sufficient, without excessive service. It was a good location for sightseeing around Lake Biwa. I thought about staying at other hotels in the same chain.

My wife and I had the good fortune of choosing Reiah Hotel Otsu Ishiyama, We wanted a hotel away from the hustle and bustle of the noisy and overcrowded Kyoto City. Train station, bus terminal, eateries, supermarket and convenient stores are just a few steps from the hotel. The friendly and helpful staffs, such as Makiko, Yukiko and Takayukiko made our stay relaxed and enjoyable. Although the room is small, it is compensated by the high standard of cleanliness we experienced throughout our nine day stay at the hotel, August is not the very ideal month to visit Kyoto. The daily temperature is about 37 deg Celsius. The air-condition at the whole hotel is effective to combat the sweltering summer heat. There are a few areas the hotel could do to improve the service to provide customers with a more comfortable stay at the hotel. 1. Black out curtains should be provided for rooms facing east, The sun rises around 5am and the room becomes fairly bright by about 5.15am. 2. Drinking water could be provided in the room. Most guests would want a sip of water when returning to the room from the hot and humid weather outside. 3. The complimentary breakfast is nice but could be improved with frequent changes of the meals and dishes. As an example, the vegetables of the salad bowl consisted of cut lettuce, cabbage and cucumber slices remained the same day in and day out. We fully recommend this hotel for those who choose convenient location, friendly service and clean but medium size room.

Great Hotel, Perfect if you have JR pass!”
I really enjoyed our stay at the Reiah Hotel Otsu Ishiyama. This hotel was the best value for money we had in our two week vacation. I attribute this largely to it being so close to the JR Ishiyama station. You can take a local JR train to the center of the city in about 15 minute and the trains come quite frequently every 10 minutes or so. There is also a McDonalds and FamilyMart right on the corner if you get hungry. I think staying here was a lot smarter than paying through the nose for a hotel in the center of the city. We were able to do the same things for a fraction of the price. I also slept quite soundly in the quiet neighborhood too. Once you figure our the train (platform 2) to Ishiyama from Kyoto Central Station, you won't regret this choice. Breakfast buffet was adequate for starting the day and the service was pretty good as well.

Super clean and comfortable”
The Reiah Hotel Otsu Ishiyama is a very nice, modernly-renovated hotel that is down the street from Ishiyama JR station. The included breakfast had a decent variety of Japanese and western options. My reason for travel to Ishiyama is to visit my brother, and this is my go-to hotel. Lucky for me, it was renovated a couple of years ago and is a very nice place to stay. The double room is typically small, but includes a fridge. The staff is very friendly. The ladies who work the breakfast area run a tight ship and there is never a shortage of items and the area is spotless!

Great Hotel, Good location and very friendly staff”
My girlfriend, brother, his partner, a friend and I stayed at Reiah Hotel Otsu Ishiyama as a base for our Kyoto leg and found the hotel to be overall great. The staff were very friendly and always willing to help. In fact my friend forgot his toothbrush charger and only realised once returning to Australia. The staff were only happy to send his charger back to him without any cost. The rooms were very spacious (Family Non-Smoking) and clean, not to mention the breakfast was very tasty. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to stay just outside Kyoto and I would definitely stay here again.

I've enjoyed my stay at Reiah Hotel Otsu Ishiyama. I reached the hotel at 11am and was given a room despite being early and without additional charge, so I was able to take a rest before headed out sightseeing. It was only 2 mins walk from the nearest JR station which is great. If you do not mind the fact that this hotel is an extra 15mins train ride from Kyoto Stn, it is actually a very good choice of a clean, neat and affordable hotel with free high speed internet too!

Everything good about this hotel”
We had a great stay in Reiah Hotel Otsu Ishiyama. The rooms are clean. The toilet is just the right size... not big but not too small. Breakfast is good... i love their croissant. The train station is just around the corner. Although the hotel is quite far from kyoto station, it is easily accessible. There are restaurants acriss the hotel that serves very delicious grilled food.

unexpensive hotel for visiting Kyot”
We stayed in "Reiah Hotel" one night during our short trip to Kyoto. Since I made this reservation well in advance, we have got the 30% discount for the early reservation. So, the total cost for two people, including breakfast, was only about 7700 yen. I think, it is a fantastic price for Kyoto area, especially during this popular season (end of March). The room was comfortable and the breakfast - pretty reasonable. The hotel is located basically in front of the entrance to Ishiyama train station. So, you can reach Kyoto station within 15 minutes, by using regular train (the price is 230 yen). In total, if you are looking an unexpensive hotel for visiting Kyoto, "Reiah" is definitely good choice.

Great place ”
We enjoyed our stay in Reiah Hotel. The room was spacious - we got a twin room, and it had two large beds that can comfortably fit 4 adults (we were 2 adults and 2 kids). I booked 4 twin rooms for my whole family here. The location is super close to Ishiyama Station, and there are lots of restaurants and convenience stores nearby. Free breakfast is included in the room - the choices were simple but good. This is not in Kyoto City but Ishiyama Station is a short ride to Kyoto Station. We would stay here again if we ever visit Kyoto again. Highly recommended!

Clean, quite, convenient, staff courteous and professional”
Reiah Hotel is one-minute walk from Ishiyama Station which is on JR Biwako Line - a 15-minute ride from Kyoto Station. We love it's delicious and healthy breakfast. The main entries vary everyday. The bedding is excellently comfortable. For those international guests who fly to or out of Osaka, JR Haruka Line has direct (limited express train) service (90-minute ride one way) between Ishiyama and Kansai Airport terminal Stations. You don't need to fight the crowd in Kyoto Station to make a transfer. One suggestion for the hotel: we like to have a luggage stand in the room. 😄

5 Nights Stay”
We had a good stay at the Reiah Hotel. It is at the next corner from the McD across the street from the JR. We had a room on the 6th floor, which gave us enough height to see Lake Otsu and the mountains. We had a wonderful sunrise view from our window. The room is small to Western standards, but the room seems to be the average size of most business hotels. They give out bathroom amenities at the front desk. If you prefer not to have housekeeping services, they offer you a free beverage. The breakfast was the same every day, except for a daily change in the hot meat dish. The breakfast was still quite good, but by the 5th morning we were tired of having curry rice. However, I'm not complaining since breakfast is free.

good stuff, 15 min on train from kyoto st ”
we really enjoyed our stay in ishiyama. at first we were disappointed that we couldn't find hotel in kyoto but once we saddled in we enjoyed our stay. the hotel is 1 min walk from ishiyama trains station. the ride is about 15 min long until you reach kyoto station. (you'll get used to hear, yamashina, otsu, zeze, ishiyama, on your way back from kyoto).the rooms are comfortable and well designed, you don't need to place your bags in strange places. the staff spoke english and the lobby got a pc and wireless internet. what we loved the most staying there, was to be able to experience how a small japanase city looks like, to experience ishiyama too with it's lovely people.

Great Compact Hotel”
Reiah Hotel is 3 stations away from Kyoto station but only 1 min from Ishiyama Station, which is very convenient for budget travellers. The room space although is small but well equipped with all the needed accessories and comfortable bed & bathroom. The hotel staff is friendly and speaks good english and the offered price comes with complimentary breakfast, which is wonderful.

Although it is about a 14 minute train ride to the Kyoto Train Station, the hotel is across the street from Ishiyama Station in the Otsu area. I was here during the New Years holiday and taking the train into Kyoto to visit the many temples was easy to do coming from Ishiyama. Once you reach Kyoto Station the options seem limitless as to where to travel. We took trains to Kobe, Osaka, each West, East, North, and South Kyoto sections to visit our selected areas. Fushimi-Inari being our favorite temple to visit at night, many people continued to hike up the mountain/temple even with light snow fall since it is well lit, the snowfall just added to the mystique. If you're looking to save a few bucks this is a good hotel to stay for a few nights. One thing to keep in mind though, if you plan to enjoy the later nightlife remember that many trains stop running before 12 or 1 a.m. so you could be stuck paying a big taxi fare which would then subtract any savings you made on the hotel. For New Years Eve we visited Miidera Temple in central Otsu and it was a 30,000 Yen ($30) taxi cab back so to compare a taxi fare back from Kyoto (say Higashiyama - East Kyoto), Miidera Temple is about 2/5 the distance if you were to taxi from Higashiyama back to Ishiyama.

Excellent hotel! ”
We had a very pleasant stay - very clean, there're more variety of foods at breakfast than we expected given that it's free. I'm a very light sleeper and it's not as quiet as I would wish it to be. For light sleepers, I would recommend wearing ear plugs, which I did and slept well. My friends slept very well without ear plugs. Love the hot shower/ bath! For those coming from Osaka Airport, buy a one-day Kansai rail pass for 2300yen, which is cheaper than the normal rail ticket to travel from the airport to Kyoto. The pass will let you travel from airport to Kyoto central station and also to Ishiyama station. The journey from airport to Kyoto central station takes at least 1h15min. Within Kyoto central station (you don't have to exit the station), take the Biwako line train to Ishiyama, which takes 15min. The train comes very frequent, almost like MRT. At Ishiyama station, take the right exit where you can see McDonalds. Just walk pass McDonalds and you can find the hotel. Around the hotel, you can find 7-11, Family Mart and a few restaurants/ japanese-style bars. We found one bar that sells great food at very affordable price. We don't know the name in English. It's very small, has a good bar atmosphere and has a few dishes written in English. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel!

Reiah Hotel is near by the Lake Biwa and JR Ishiyama station. So it's also convenient to go to Kyoto downtown or Osaka city from here. We are vegetarians, and we did eat some tasty food with the provided breakfast. The room is clean and comfy. And the receptionists are kind and did us a great favor. Thanks a lot! It's good to stay here during journey!

A comfortable well run hotel with a great location”
We had booked this hotel for a week as we wanted to spend some time visiting Kyoto and enjoy the autumn colours. Coming out of the Otsu Ishiyama station, we found the hotel very quickly. The reception staff made us very welcome. The hotel is clean, modern, functional and the rooms are large and comfortable. Breakfast is complimentary and very good, catering for all tastes. The surroundings are pleasant with shops and a variety of restaurants, most of them giving a taste of local cuisine in a typical Japanese style. Lake Biwa is within walking distance of the station and the hotel and a visit of nearby Otsu is enjoyable. A 15 mins train ride gave us easy access to Kyoto, but allowed us to relax away from the big city. We would highly recommend this hotel.

we got the jp rail pass, and commute every from ishiyama to kyoto it is just 13-14 minutes away by train. (even if you don't have the jp rails pass it is worthy to pay the train rate daily) hotel is next to ishiyama station and trains departs every 15 minutes or less (look for mcdonals sigh hotel is on the same sidewalk) hotel is new and clean. wifi is available in the lobby, included breakfast is buffete and is good enough. rooms are a little small but this is normal in japan. i used twice their laundy machines on the 6th floor, at a low rate with soap included. if you stay in kyoto you won't find anything that comfortable at the same or at a lower price, believe me! i would stay there again without hesitation
