Where to stay in Kyoto
Kyoto hotels & accommodations
Stayed here because it was close to Kyoto Station and the reviews had been very positive. We were not disappointed! Location was excellent, with a straight subway ride out to the Conference Centre for me and convenience for the family to go exploring Kyoto. Hotel staff were multi-lingual and very friendly. Particularly helpful when it came to sourcing a restaurant tha...
Best hotel we’ve stayed in here in Japan! Room was perfect, went above and beyond for our expectations of cleanliness! On top of it being already immaculate it was cleaned thoroughly everyday! We had an option if we wanted our room not to be cleaned, simple cleaning (Fresh towels & minimal cleaning & then a clean where you can request to have your sheets changed). We g...
I had an excellent couple of nights at The Pocket Hotel. Location is excellent (although a bit of a walk from Kyoto Station), rooms and facilities are pristine clean, and the privacy and soundproofing is very nice. I stayed in a number of other hostels in Japan on my trip (for a comparable price) and this was by far my favourite. If you’re looking for a good night’s sl...
This is a great hotel for a traveler who wants a very clean, well-located hotel, without paying for the “frills” that one rarely uses. Staff is very helpful, The rooms are large enough so one is comfortable spending an afternoon lounging about (which we did due to a typhoon sweeping thru Japan), the coffee shop serves a nice variety of food (although I wish that it s...
It's a brand new 5 star hotel (opened in September 2017). The location is just perfect for us as we had gotten the hotel to make most of our restaurants reservations, mostly around the GION district area. Quite a number of sightseeing places (famous Shrines & Temples) are within walking distance. It is especially good for us as we can walk off the calories after our l...
We only booked for one night to see the top 5 attractions of Kyoto. New miyako was superbly located, just in front of the massive train station and bus transits which can lead u to ALL major attractions in Kyoto. You can take the bus 100 and get a day pass for ride all u can, you can see major temples such as Silver pavilion and a nearby one with a UNESCO heritage badg...
Will highly recommend this hotel in Kyoto, as it is located near Kyoto station. Convenient with the bus terminal at Kyoto station. In addition, hotel provides free shuttle service to attraction! Do check with the concierge to book the transport to the attraction, really convenient. Highly recommend !!
This is the first Kyoto hotel I stayed in Japan for six days. Hotel staff is from front desk down to kitchen are extremely helpful and polite, I am truly impressed by the japanese people, from their attitude to the ways things are being done. Hotel room is always clean and tidy whenever I got back. Hotel location is conveniently located next to the shopping district. I...
Hotel is conveniently located opposite the kyoto train station and bus station. The nippon car rental is also round thr corner. The rooms are v confortable and clean. They provide new sets of pyjamas and toiletries everyday. They also provided umbrellas on a rainy day. The hotel staff were most helpful with advice when we needed durections. It is a really great value...
As soon as we arrived we knew we were going to have a faboulous stay Recepcion hall is an open courtyard where a nice open fireplace warms you up as soon as you arrive There is also a great bar (with an other fireplace) My boyfriend is a smoker and as in Japan smoking areas are really hard to find he really enjoyed this one as it was in a great space. After our welc...
One of the best hotels in Kyoto, the staff are super kind and nice even I kept asking the questions. They also gave me some good advice and a useful map on my travelling and eating in that districts. Also, the room was very clean and comfortable. I will definitely stay is this hotel again during my next trip in Kyoto. And I will recommend my friend to book it too!! Th...
I knew this was a nice hotel but the service and amenities were above and beyond. You have snacks all time, free wine during happy hour, a beautiful onsen with quality cleansing products. The hotel was super central, minutes away from Nishiki Market (good stop for breakfast) and walkable to Gion. The staff were super friendly. Everything was super clean and everythin...
This hotel was a jem, just a 5-7 mins walk to the main Kyoto station. The hotel feels very very new and rooms were well cleaned. However, we had the hotel lobby staff unable to converse in English thus we had a hard time trying to communicate with them. Although there was a language barrier, the staff had remained professional and patient while I tried to articulate my...
this is one of the best hotels in Kyoto with efficient and friendly service. large rooms (by Japanese standards) and nicely designed lobby make this a good place for rest after a long day sightseeing in Kyoto. great location to some of the main temples as well as the main train station. a little bit far away from downtown (shopping), Gion and some of the temples in the...
We stayed here for 6 nights which is a relatively long time in a hotel so we got to really experience the service. It was great. The room we had was quite large compared to most we’ve experienced in Japan (we had a large twin room). The beds were really comfortable and had that luxury feel that often comes with good quality bedding and great pillows. The room was quiet...
This is the second time I stay at this hotel in Kyoto. The great location, for its walk distance to many tourist sites, 24 hour open shops has made this hotel a great choice for staying in Kyoto. The staff are all friendly and helpful with lovely sincerity. Rooms are small but equipped with all necessary stuff like many other hotels in Kyoto or Tokyo. Though facilitie...
Room is spacious with ample natural light. The twin beds are quite large, although a bit firm. Bathroom is larger than other hotels I've stayed at in Japan, particularly love the bathtub & rainfall shower. At check in, they have amenities baskets for ladies and children, from which you can take whatever you like, which I thought was special. The staff may seem standoff...
The hotel is located about a 10-15 min bus ride from Kyoto station and situated very close to the bus stops. It's got a very different look from the surrounding buildings so it's pretty easy to find even when you're a couple blocks away. Our room was huge for a Japanese hotel and everything was very clean. We booked the Japanese Deluxe 5 suite and the 5 of us had plent...
I loved this hotel -- the room is pretty small, but I don't even think that is worth complaining about since all hotels in Japan have small rooms. I stayed in three hotels while in Japan, and this one had the most spacious and comfortable bed out of them all. I had a king-sized bed in my room. The hotel itself is really cool -- I loved the decor and the very modern, r...
We loved the aesthetics of the hotel from the moment we stepped in. The room and amenities made our stay very comfortable - very spacious, very clean. Location is close to Kyoto station (10-15mins walk); not as close to Gion though you can access from subway which is 5mins walk from hotel. But what stood out was the helpfulness of the staff. They helped us to book rest...
Grand Bach Kyoto is a nice hotel, we loved to stay here. We looked for the hotel in Kyoto since 3 months in advance, and we found that this hotel meet our inquiry, good price, location, free wifi in room and facilities. But for last minute booking i think the price was overrated, perhaps because of it's hard to find a hotel during the Gion Matsuri Festival (3rd largest...
We’d spent 4 nights here as our base for Kyoto. Hotel is very clean, room is a good size, next to a 7-Eleven and the ladies at the front desk could speak English (at least could help us with directions). It’s 3-mins’ walk from Gojo subway station Exit 3 and approx 20 mins walk from Keihan Kiyomizu-Gojo station. Two bonuses - (i) the hotel has a public bath (gender se...
Specifically booked this hotel due to its proximity to Kyoto Station. Just across the road in fact. Was pleasantly surprised that it is not only near to Kyoto Station, but it is also situated on the JR station side, which means we do not have to walk the length of the station to get to the Shinkansen station to Tokyo. Best located (for my purpose) hotel for me and my s...
I travelled together with a friend and had no place to stay in Kyoto. Luckily we found a guesthouse through this site which made our stay in the city so much better! The guesthouse was so new they didn't even have a proper sign outside, but that "problem" is no more. When we entered inside (a few hours early) our host Takeshi-san met us up with a bright smile. With...
Location is right next to Kyoto station, facilities are up to a 4 star hotel standard, unfortunately I would like to comment on the very poor hospitality service by front desk staff Mr Hamza, who spoke rudely and was very disrespectful to my partner when she wore her room slippers down to lobby for breakfast. We later understood that it is the hotel policy that slipper...
Our 2nd time in Kyoto. Glad to have found this hotel. "Living Lobby", a perfect place for a cup of coffee and creative work. Near to 2 different train stations, three 7-11 outlets with postcard printing machine, 4 different bus stops and countless bars, cafes and restaurants. Walking distance to 祇園 Gion and next to 先斗町 Ponto-chō. Baggage storage meanwhile waiting ...
It is the best place of my 10 days in Japan. Everything is so good, clean, new and comfortable. The location is wonderful, near the bus station, railway and market, but still silence for a sleep after hard day of walking. You should stay here and I will stay here when I come back to Kyoto blossom season next year!!!
Cheap places to stay in Kyoto
Best hostel per budget so far I’ve been to in Japan. You get fridges to store food, kitchen to cook, coin laundry and locker to store small valuables. Downstairs is a cafe where you can eat all day, Nepali chicken curry is very good. Note that you make your own bed. For access, take Keihan train to Kiyomizu-Gojo station and walk here, or JR train to Kyoto station and ...
Stayed for 2 weeks, and had a great stay. Clean rooms and beds were cleaned for every new guest. Very friendly staff (they let me study in the sake bar downstairs and gave me recommendations on food). Distance from the station was under 5-minute walk, and the view of the city from the 3rd floor was beautiful.
In this hostel, I made a lot of friends. All the staff can speck English and all of them are so NICE! Also, there is cooking facilities, that's well for the meal arrangement. Japanese living style hostel, very clean. Close to Nijo castle and Kyoto Imperial palace, I can walk to these two spots. Around the environment it is so quiet so you can have a nice sleep. Low pri...
It's comfortable with a kitchen. I really liked the common area. The dorms were fine but not the best. The beds are fine but I would have liked a more comfortable bed and pillow. It's nice to have the kitchen, free coffee and a group cleaning each day. I did notice once that before the group came in at 11:00 the common room and kitchen were dirty. It was just once bu...
I stayed 2 night in Mondo, the location is ok, there is bus and supermarket nearby, walked further has train station. It is a traditional Japanese house. You can use kitchen to cook. The staffs are very nice, they can give you the best advice in Kyoto. Even there is tourist map on the wall, mark the entrance ticket, the distance for you considering. There is tatami liv...
I loved Guest House Taiko-Ya. It is a tiny traditional Japanese house turned into a hostel. Everything has been well thought out and is extremely clean and comfortable. The staff were very accommodating and friendly, and helped us plan our stay in Kyoto. The bathroom was wonderful, although I must say that it wasn't that practical to have only one bathroom for the whol...
Great location and the most welcome I have ever felt at a hostel after travelling over 2 years, all of the staff were amazing from the minute I arrived, the guest house itself is modern, extremely clean and very comfortable. The beds in the 4 bed dorm have a curtain for privacy and a power point/USB port so it is perfect to rest after a long day exploring all Kyoto h...
Awesome staff, will help you with anything! They give directions to the sightseeing spots, just so nice and helpful. It’s clean, close to the bus stop, great location, just perfect. 10/10
I really love this place! the staff, Yang "Nancy" and Hong is very kind, polite, and informative. Me and my friend went to Kyoto for a week and only book for 2 days. But they offered us to extend there with no overpriced at all. The facility also completely satisfying. The laundry was free, the kitchen was clean, and the wi-fi was amazing. i got a lot of advices from t...
Went to 4 different capsule hostels on my trip in Japan and i think this hostel is the best so far. The staffs are very friendly, the building are nicely designed, it has a very relaxing and calm atmosphere. Lounge area are especially great, it has books about kyoto, guitar, tv and many other things. One of the downside would be a lack of locker to store a bigger v...
If you are a new traveler to Kyoto (solo or not). This capsule hostel is for you. the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable in sightseeing spots, events and tours. they were able to teach me where I could go for autumn leave night illumination which is famous in Kyoto. facilities are clean but bed is dusty (not for people with sinus issues). It has a very tradit...
We stayed for 2 nights. There is one number of the staff that is really nice mas helpful. There is a full equiped kitchen, a common area, washing machine for 100jpy, hot shower. The room was spacious with tv and aircon, the only bad thing was that it smell a bit weird but I guess it was because the windows were closed most of the time. Overall we had a great stay and ...
Great location! Close to subways and bus stops. We got Room 1 at first floor - Yugo was really helpful and got our luggage to the room (stairs). As it's on the main road, we can hear the traffic 24hours. Old style house so expect a bit of smell. There's lounge area with microwave, fridge, hot water dispenser, TV, sofa, dining table.
We had an amazing time in Kyoto thanks to the guys at Earthship! The hostel was located in a great area of Kyoto, with lots of bars, shops and places to eat. All within walking distance. The city centre and all attractions and be easily reached by walking or public transportation. We rented bikes too as its the best way to explore Kyoto. The room was spacious and v...
It was our first time in Japan and our itinerary includes Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka. Still our favorite would be in Kyoto even if we stayed just for a night. We love our 'Ryokan'-inspired room. We literally have the small table, seat cushions, complete with a tea set. We have to push the table and cushions aside to make way for our futon beds. The futon is very comfortable as ...
We were in Kyoto for the foliage and booked this guesthouse because my wife wanted a room with a garden in a traditional Japanese house. This place is a self service guesthouse. You make your own bed. They have 2 bathrooms and 3 toilets outside the room (1 toilet is famale only). There's bus stop on the main road about 200m. Supermarket for food, convenient store just ...
I loved the atmosphere and its convenient access to transportation and the different attractions. Considering how much the price of the hotels in Kyoto had been increased during the weekends, 25 dollars/a night is nothing but the reception staffs were not so friendly in my personal opinion but the lady I met works there as a cleaner was really kind and helpful. Her na...
Kyoto Guesthouse Hannari is a perfect place to stay if you're backpacking alone or in a small group. The price was cheap, and the accommodations were great. There are a few beds along one wall in the hallway, kind of like 2 bunkbeds, and then there are 4 rooms with 2 bunk beds each. I stayed in the halls. I could hear people talking in the separate room right next to m...
Nishijin is a quiet place which located far from Kyoto town. Kingyoya guesthouse surrounded by residential district, I found a piece of calm there and my one-day trip @ Nishijin is my favourite day among my 6 days trip in Kansai. I will definitely return to Kyoto and stay at Kingyoya again. Everything is awesome in Kingyoya, however if you stay during Winter, there wil...
It’s such a nice and very comfy to stay here. The train station is just nearby (Shichijo st. 320m, Exit3) and Kyoto station just 10mins walk. The hotel provides more than standard items such as facial cleansing foam , cleansing oil and leave on hair treatment. However the hotel is 90% of wooden, it’s probably trouble with noise if you have non-respect guests. Eve...
If you have stayed in any of their hostels in Japan you know what you will get. Friendly staff, good wifi, great amounts of local tourist information (cheap rental bikes, laundry, etc). It's like a 10 min walk from JR Kyoto train station and a bus ride away from the main Kyoto city (5 minutes on bus or walk 30 mins). But in Kyoto if you want to visit the temples... yo...
The B Kyoto hotel is very good hotel with valuable price. Very convenience to access around Kyoto with public transport. We also enjoy the room facilities
Simple, clean, great staff. Make sure you use this address only: 1-6, Suzutsukacho, South Kyoto, Kyoto, Japan 612 0011. Otherwise you will be walking an extra 20 minutes over to a back alley guesthouse also called KOTA. The guesthouse KOTA with dorms and Japanese rooms on this site that you want to book is a 2 minute walk from the Fushimi Inari temple bus stop on a ...
For those who want to experience the traditional Japanese style home stay and with limited budget, Yululu would be the best choice. The bed and whole setting is comfy and cozy. The staff are very friendly. But the only limited is that it is not noise proof at night. Also, it has the best location, located at the city center, lots of coffee shops, gallery and boutiques ...
Staff performance was outstanding. Very helpful with maps and direction/travel advice. They provide luggage storage until 10pm. There's a bus stop right outside to take you to the golden temple and other key tourist locations. You can buy an all day bus ticket for 500yen. Common room was fantastic. Met some interesting travelers to dine and explore Gion with. Beds ...
I stayed in Kyoto for one night only. I arrived to Kyoto late and the hotel was so good that they sent me an email to teach me how to check-in myself. Everything in the hotel is good. Both capsule (inc. bed sheet), shower room, toilet are clean and comfortable. Especially the capsule is spacious enough. If you are a backpacker, you must love it. But the only concern ...
It is a well maintain traditional Japanese house turns guesthouse. Less than 5 mins walk to Higashyama station , great for sightseeing around this area if you would like take a break from hustle and bustle of Kyoto Station area. Clean room with necessary amenities. As there is only one shower room , at time need to wait for the turn to take shower during peak hour, no...
The guesthouse is very accessible as it is just a few walk to bus stops to and from Kyoto Station.. just across the street are Daiso, Uniqlo and Life supermarket where you can buy anything you need (food, clothes and other stuff).. plus, at each end of the street, around 300-400mts, you will find Family Mart.. the place is so cozy -- the common area is like you're real...
Great value for money. I was in a room with 4 other fellas and not even a curtain to separate us, but it's exactly what we paid for. Nice, friendly staff. Decent food. Great location. Maybe not for miserables that want everything just like it is at home though.
This is by far one of the best budget accommodations we've been to! WeBase is a know hostel chain in Japan but very affordable. We stayed for 2 nights and it did not disappoint given the affordable rates! It is located right in the middle of Kyoto's commercial center (Kawaramachi area) and a few minutes walk from the subway (Shijo Stn) which is two stops away from Ky...

Joking in the title aside, Hotel Anteroom Kyoto was a refreshing change from the already-excellent hotels I've stayed at until this point during my first trip to Japan. Some solo travellers may find the single room to be too small for their liking - I'll admit that my room was a bit cramped, but given how beautiful Kyoto is, as a small base to take a break at once or ...
I was traveling in Japan for 18 days, going to various hotels and places. Kyoto is definitely the place I love the most. Lots of places to go and see here. This hotel is definitely way excellent. Staff are very friendly, they help with direction, suggestion to go, one staff even mapped out a nice bike track for me to follow to Harashiyama. The hotel is very new. Room...
We spent 5 nights at the Almont whilst in Kyoto. Hotel has everything would need for a comfortable stay although there is no gym which was a pain! Staff are excellent, very helpful, friendly and accomodating. Hotel is located 5 mins walk from kyoto station, rear entrance. It's a quite and friendly part of kyoto and only 10 minutes walk to the front end of kyoto stati...
hotels in kyoto are generally very expensive at all times, and this one is no different. however comparatively speaking, we thought this one was good value for money. the location was close to the gion area and the temple areas in higashiyama. facilities were good and the staff, as with most hotels in kyoto, were very friendly and professional.
The location is excellent, just the opposite side of Kyoto Station. The staffs are friendly and helpful. The hotel just below Kyoto Tower and the guest can access the Tower for free. Surprisingly, the hotel locates in central city and under the highlight city tower, but the price is reasonable. It even cheaper than other ryokans around. If you are not serious to stay...
Although I have only stayed for 1 night, but Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Shinmachi Bettei did really impress me by its friendly staff, the facilities at room and the beautiful Kyoto-style design. I arrived at hotel in the early morning, as soon as the staff at front door saw me carrying my luggage, she immediately helped me with my heavy luggage and escorted me to lobby....
We stayed at the Sakura Terrace Hotel in Kyoto during the busy last week of November 2013. We paid US$160 per night, without breakfast, but it should be about half that during off-peak periods. The hotel opened in October 2013. It is conveniently located one subway stop south of Kyoto station, with the Kujo station exit right in front of the hotel entrance. Alternative...
It’s a beautiful property! The room was huge even by American standards. The futons were very comfy, and both the room bath and public bath were delightful. The staff were great as well, very friendly and helpful . The location is very convenient close to the subway, and the main shopping street is only a 6 min walk away. The only negative aspects for this stay were...
Kyoto is on of tourist mandatory must visit city in Japan. That's why we almost hopeless to find good hotel with good price in Kyoto. And we are so grateful to book Citadines in Kyoto. *Good location (right in front of train station exit but with stairs, so please find elevator from another exit which is also pretty near from Citadines). Citadines is very close to bus ...
This is my first time staying at Noku Kyoto. Since I check-in at 3pm, the lady at front desk showed her warm welcome to me and conducted the check-in procedure with her friendliness and sincerity. Besides, she did explain some important notes to me in detailed with her patience. I can truly tell that I was experiencing the great services of a 5-star hotel standard sin...
If you love immersing yourself in a culture and just going with the flow, a ryokan is a great way to experience a part of the long and ancient culture of Japan. A traditional style hotel, it is a different universe from your 4 or 5 star modern hotels, but as a unique experience, it is superlative. I cannot recommend enough that you go for the full experience - the kais...
Wonderful onsen for the price! I arrived early and left my bags with them which were waiting for me in my room when I came back to check in after sightseeing. although it's in a beautiful area and located across the street from a train station I gave it a satisfactory on the location since the train line that runs to it isn't from Kyoto station. There is another sta...
Just a quick review to say that my wife and I have just spent 3 weeks in Japan and stayed in many Ryokans and western style hotels (including the Keio Plaza Premier Grand in Tokyo which was pretty amazing too!) but the Cross Hotel in Kyoto was the best value by far. I can't speak highly enough of their courteous and attentive service, their delicious restaurant meals (...
Top notch hotel right at Kyoto Station. Nice room with view of Shinkansen trains for railfans and a large window on other side of the corridor with terrific views of Kyoto Station. Very comfortable bed. Very good breakfast except for a bun which was a bit stale. Will helpfully keep luggage for those who arrive early or are still sightseeing in Kyoto after check-out.
Luxury hotels in Kyoto
It's a brand new 5 star hotel (opened in September 2017). The location is just perfect for us as we had gotten the hotel to make most of our restaurants reservations, mostly around the GION district area. Quite a number of sightseeing places (famous Shrines & Temples) are within walking distance. It is especially good for us as we can walk off the calories after our l...

we loved staying at the kyoto brighton hotel. the room we stayed in was a double room and it was very spacious. the bathroom is very big, we enjoyed taking showers there. the rooms are clean and comfortable. the neighborhood is quite which was nice. the concierge was very helpful, they helped us book our restaurants, printed out maps and ordered our meals in advanc...
My husband and I splurged on this hotel to experience the westside of Kyoto during out visit and we weren't disappointed. (We stayed on the eastside for two days and one night.) The staff was incredibly pleasant and welcoming. They helped to store our luggage before check-in so that we could sightsee until our room was ready and when we arrived for our room they had al...
The Nikko Princess Kyoto is one of the older, premier hotels in Kyoto, seemingly catering more toward to an Asian clientele, but providing all of the western amenities as well. The front desk staff are professional and speak english. The concierge desk is available to provide Kyoto city information and tours. The food in the restaurant is good but be advised that the r...
We arrived at the hotel early and was told that check in was strictly 3pm or after. Once we were brought to our room, the attendant who was dressed in a kimono was able to help us with our questions despite her limited knowledge of the English vocabulary. The room was way above my expectations (neat, tidy and clean) with all the amenities provided. For dinner we chose ...
I spent a month researching ryokans and hotels in Kyoto and I'm glad I picked Yuzuya in the end. I wanted my trip to be perfect because it was so precious for me to travel with family. I want to say Thank You to Yuzuya for making the stay delightful. I was concerned with the noise mentioned in some posts, but in the end it did not become a bother. I was lucky to get...
Fantastic Ryokan about 50 minutes north of Kyoto nestled in the mountains right off of a river. My girlfriend and I arrived in the rain and were greeted by three employees with umbrellas who guided us into their beautiful establishment. The room we stayed in was amazing - we had a balcony with luscious green views and could hear the relaxing sounds of the river ambli...
We stayed at Aoi Kyoto Hotel in April 2017. Great stay. Room is huge. Bathroom sinks are quite small though. There is a laundry machine too. Staff is awesome. So helpful in every way. This hotel is also nearby a lot of restaurants and bars. Overall a very pleasant stay.
It's located aside the river and close to many historical attractions. This is an modern Ryokan hotel but there is no public onsen provided. Private onsen need to be booked in advance and charge applied. Food could be better. In conclusion, we can find an equally standard of Onsen resort in half price in Kyoto.
My wife and I travel abroad quite regularly and she likes to stay at nice places. We were very glad to have found Aoi Kyoto Stay and this particular house. It is small but very tastefully done. We loved the decor and how the furnishings and accessories maximized the space and elegantly appointed. The location is also perfect with lots of restaurants and bars practicall...
We visit Kyoto at least once per year in the past decade and have stayed at most of the better known modern hotels in the city. The overall quality of this hotel is the best to us. Wonderful architecture and design. A good Italian restaurant and very helpful staff. Location is a bit far away from the subway but next to a river and close to some interesting local shops ...
This is a 3 room boutique hotel located in a 5-story building between Gion and Pontocho. Floor 1 is a cafe/coffee shop with outdoor seating, floor 2 is a great beef centric restaurant open for lunch and dinner. Floor 3 has 2 guest rooms. Floor 4 is check-in and a high end jewelry store, and Floor 5 is the Penthouse suite. We stayed in both a studio on floor 3 a...
This hotel is small without many facilities and therefore seems pretty expensive for what you get. The room was lovely though, really spacious and the staff were courteous and welcoming. The location is perfect, right in the heart of Gion and very close to the station for travelling to other sights. Exactly what we needed for our stay.
This little gem in the centre of Kyoto puts you in touch with the true Japanese culture through great service, amaaaazing product, and by far the most professional and humble hosts you will ever come across in any hotel! Overall wonderful experience. Yukiko and the whole team there are absolutely fantastic and made our stay truly memorable.
The four seasons always has a high standard and this one is no exception. There were a few things that were a little bit of a letdown. Before booking, we didn't realise that it was a non-smoking hotel. Even though we had an outdoor balcony, we couldn't smoke there, instead had to walk down through the lounge to the far end of the outside deck which kind of makes you fe...
My first time to visit Japan and I wanna stay at somewhere that represents Japanese tradition style. This Aoi villa is located next to the philosophy path and it’s such a peaceful and beautiful spot next to the mountain. 5mins wall to the nearest bus stop, the bus can take u to Kyoto station and all the shopping mall in city. It’s such a convenient spot and I really lo...
This is a beautifully-designed hostel that makes you feel like you're not staying in a hostel. The dorm space is spacious & really clean. I like the lounge area- nice area to chill & read a book. Location is really good. Short walk from Exit 4 of Jingu Marutamachi station. 2 stops away from Gion. About 15-20mins walk to Imperial Palace. And there are direct buses near...
A little out of the way, but once you get where it is, it’s a perfect location! Turn left straight out of the turnstiles at Nishioji Station, go up a flight of stairs and then down the other side, take an immediate left into a tunnel, after which you hang a right all the way until you pass a dry cleaners on a street corner. After that, take a left down the next street,...
I don't understand why agoda described this hotel as 5 stars. In my view, the pricing is completely ripped off. The premise is small, dangerous for kids as there was zero window blockage. Location is not as convenient and zero house keeping during our stay. We are very disappointed.
Pros: - Quality bathroom amenities - Microwave oven - Very clean room, floors, linens - Spacious - Good air conditioning - Quiet - Laundry and dryer available Cons: - Quite a bit of walk from the main shopping street - Difficult to catch a cab nearby I absolutely recommend this place for a honeymoon - the deep tub baths and comfortable bed were excellent for a good r...
For anyone wanting to experience the way a Ryokan would have been along the Tokaido in the days of the Shogun please stay at Seikoro. The service is magnificent, friendly and speaks English. The room is traditional except for the free wifi and spacious. Having your own Japanese bathroom in your room is a luxury. There is also a public bath too that should be tried. Thi...
There is no shortage for Tokyo travellers who want to feel a home in Kyoto! The host is very nice and the place is perfect in terms of location and facility. It was really good experience to stay here.
Dont expect much... just very good location
How can I describe this place. It was a mix of historical Japanese style house but with modern amenities! It was so classy well preserved and how the owner took such time to comb over each and every detail of the house. We felt so fortunate to stay here and when we come back. We will only ever stay here.
Loved Maana Kyoto.. everything was perfect here. All the little details were well thought out. A very tranquil stay.. we didn't want to leave! We will be back :)

it is such a cosy, cultural, accessible and friendly city! it sounds royal and big but really a perfect sized destination for a 4-5 nights stay!
Beautiful city, culturally magnificent, easy to get around, transportation excellent and very clean! Food is reasonably priced if you know where you to go to eat.
Kyoto has many well-preserved historic places of interest. It is the main place to see all things unique to Japan.
If you are a sporty type, just skip the crowded bus system entirely and rent a good bike! I've done Kyoto by bike 5 times now and as long as it ain't raining, bike is the WAY to go!
i cant think of any reason not going to kyoto in a lifetime. i visited to kyoto during the red leafs high season.
Kyoto has lots of culture and sightseeing places. Good variety of restaurants. Bus system is easy to use and to get around town.

Kyoto is an ancient city that last for more than a thousand year, thus it has a lot of old, historical places, and also temples.
If you are a culture buff, this is the place for you. I love how they try to preserve their culture.
Kyoto is a must to see in Japan, plenty of amazing temples, spectacular gardens, very vibrant city. In my opinion the gloden Kinkakuji pavilion in northen part of the city is the best what tourist can see in Kyoto.
make sure to stop by at the shopping streets near Gion. there is a lot of fine quality tea shops along the area
There is so much to see in and around Kyoto. We stayed three days, but would definitely return and stay longer.
It's really nice to visit the different temples, the famous bridge, food is absolutely amazing! I highly recommend to go to Osaka too!
Kyoto is the quintessential "old Japan." Go and don't stay for less than two nights. For nightlife, people who don't want to go to Snack/Pub hostess bars or the few nightclubs near Kiyamachi go to Osaka instead, but everything is great here: history, culture, architecture, nature!
A big city with a lot of trains underground.. It is helpful to have some one who knows Japanese if you want to take trains or buses.
Love this small little town that is full of historical. If you love culture, this is a town for you.
Google map is very helpful, it will recommend you how to take a bus / MTR and the roads are not complicated to find.
We need some special information about Kyoto to enjoy eating and shopping. Ask them to a driver of Hotel coach! You might get a nice one.
Kyoto is very clean and safe. It is easy to get around. There is a lot to see and do especially if you are into culture and or religion.
Kyoto is a unique mix of heritage, culture and yet modern at the same time. Plenty of things to do, little alleys to wander around.
Kyoto gives us a glimpse of the traditional Japanese, the food, the numerous shrines and temples and even the old buildings.
Amazing Kyoto. We visited Nijo Castle, Kinkakuji Temple, Silver Pavilion, Gion area. Very impressive.
