Kumamoto hotels & accommodations
Mitsui Garden Hotel Kumamoto Our room was on the 8th floor. Buffet Breakfast was included and was very good with lots of choices. Very small room with double bed. Had sheet and doona, and the mattress was comfortable. Had a room safe and multi recharge ports. There was no room for luggage or moving about the room. Had one chair. Had hanging space but no cupboard. Smal...
Located next door to the Kumamoto train station with immediate access to buses & the tram system as well. The station itself is great: restaurants, shops, convenience stores, information desk, etc. Room size was refreshingly larger than others I had stayed in within Japan & is more akin to standard hotel rooms. Eco-cleaning option is available (elect not to have your...
This hotel a great value, and centrally located in downtown Kumamoto. If you are a JR traveler it is about a half hour walk from JR Kumamoto station. Trams are easy and cheap (170 Yen), but sometimes crowded. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are clean and relatively spacious, the extra charge breakfast buffet is very good. Staff is professional and courteous, ...
My family enjoyed our stay at Hotel Nikko Kumamoto very much. The room and beds were very comfortable and we had a nice view of Kumamoto Castle from our room. A complimentary baby cot was prepared and provided in our room before our arrival. Checking in and out was effortless, and we were able to check in at around 2 plus pm, contrary to the practices of other hotels i...
It's a bit far from station. Even the tram cannot reach there. The water tap is surprisingly old-fashioned. I hope the hotel can replace them. Staff are nice and helpful. Service is really good. Even when we did not require cleaning service, the staff gave us a bag of new towels and pillow cases etc which was real considerate. Near Kumamoto Castle and Natsume So...
It was a 30 minute walk from JR Kumamoto Station, though you could take a streetcar directly there. No restaurants nearby, so had to walk 15 mins to city centre, and still not much around. Didn't try free inside onset, but seemed popular. Room was a bit small, but clean and great WIFI. Free buffet Japanese breakfast was a surprise and very tasty with wide selection. Be...
This place would be great travellers with just a backpack (like me), because the space in the room is not big enough for a check-in luggage, which was what my friends brought. Still, we just used the accommodation as a place to rest and recharge for the next day, so it was still manageable. Do note that there are no doors to the 'rooms', only a curtain with a velcro s...
Kumamoto is an interesting city in Kyushu. It is an old city, with excellent historical, cultural and educational facilities. The location of the hotel was directly across from the famous Kumamoto Castle, very close to the two light train tracks that criss cross the city. The staff were pleasant and well mannered, as would be expected in Japan, and also very helpfu...
great location if you are travelling by bus -- the hotel is located just opposite to the bus terminal, and there is tram station right in front of the hotel. Kumamoto Castle is just about 7minutes walk. It is situated right next to the shopping arcades. Like other Tokyu Hotels, room size is satisfactory and Pola products are offered. Price is reasonable, even it may be...
It is a decent hotel with a public bath available in the morning and evening. Would definitely book my stay here if I come back to Kumamoto :)
It was a great little hotel handy for the Sanrigi train station (To airport and Kumamoto and the Aso coach stop). Walking distance to Kumamoto Stadium for the rugby match. (Or othr sports activities in that complex). The rooftop Onsen has great views and was great, just having one means that a couple cannot bathe at the same time. (Even though you rarely share, having ...
Perfect location where hotel directly on Shimotori shopping arcade. Walking distance to Kumamon Square, Kumamoto castle... Hotel is modern, clean, beautiful However there is a small problem as we’re driving. We couldn’t find the hotel location as the gps kept leading us to shopping arcade. Hotel parkings are a short walk from hotel, which is ok, but a little proble...
Book this hotel as base for my Southern Kyushu Trip with my parents. Very short walking distance and convenient from Kumamoto Station to this hotel. The hotel accept storage luggage. Women traveller will Received welcoming gift beauty kit during check in. During breakfast, I did show my Muslim dietary card , and the kitchen staff was so helpful to show what I can eat. ...
Rooms were clean and neat. Children loved the rooms and were comfortable. Doesn’t seem as small as stated and could still have space for luggages. Breakfast was simple and nice. Will be back again next time at Kumamoto.
In my case, the hotel room (Queen bed, non-smoking) I occupied for 2 days was pretty comfortable despite being in fringe city: modern furnishings, good size television, memory foam bed (I think), full Toto bathroom equipment (though the showerhead was pretty weak), and spacious. I didn’t use the onsite onsen (not sure if it is a natural or artificial onsen) or the laun...
I stay 2 nights at this hotel. It's frist hotel in japan of my trip. It's very private,ok for relax time.close and easy for travel in kumamoto,jr kumamoto, sunroad, kumamoto castle, suizenji park and easy go to Aso mount. very good for stay again
Great hotel in Kumamoto and nice location with friendly access to all else where we wish to visit by walk either tramp. :looking forward to be back there again. Quinzy.
I like Hotel Okus in every aspect. Actually the very big earthquake took place the night I arrived in Kumamoto, while resting in Hotel Okus. The hotel staffs came up and told us to leave although they were scared too. I saw a few hotel guests standing right outside the hotel, on the street, right between two tall buildings -- which is not a safe place to be during ...
The breakfast is one of the best i ever had room is large in japan style hotel nice one.recommanded
We were on a self drive free & easy tour and this hotel was very easy to find. The very famous Kumamoto Castle is only 2km from the hotel and within walking distance. You can also drive and they have parking at the Kumamoto castle. The hotel staff was very friendly and quickly helped us check-in and provided us a list of the sites to see. Very good breakfast - lot...
At walkable distance from the 'upper' and 'lower' shopping street of kumamoto, despite a very mild uphill 10 minutes walk from closest tram station to the hotel. Room were very spacious for Japanese standard, also very clean. And we had the pleasure for an upgraded room that face towards the kumamoto castle which is currently under repair and construction.
Japanese breakfast was nice. The Western style breakfast did not seem so appetizing. The staff were friendly and tried to communicate in English. Basically, this is a hotel for convenience. You wouldn't go here to enjoy staying in a hotel, but because the price is quite reasonable and the location is convenient, especially if you care visiting Kumamoto by highw...
Located in the heart of Kumamoto City and there are lots of shops and restaurants near the hotel, which is quite convenient for tourists. It only takes several minutes walk to the Castle. Really good location for everything in the city.
Spent 5 nights in this hotel. Satisfied for 100%. Friendly personnel (even some of them don't know English properly), they are always ready to help; clean room and facilities, everything you need was provided. Good and balanced Japanese breakfast in hotel's canteen. Coin laundry in hotel premises (3, 5 floors). Very good location, close to JR subway station Shinsuizen...
1. Excellent and friendly service from staff. 2. Very good value considering service and quality of food with in-room dinner. 3. Grounds lovely with nice formal garden, which can be seen from all rooms. 4. Location not the most convenient, a little off the beaten path in Tamana. 5. Onsen facilities are good, although the water is at a higher temperature than usual and...
You will love to stay here as it is close to the attractions in kumamoto, it is cheap, but comfortable! And you may have a chance to try the traditional bathing style of Japan.
We lost the car key, and cannot communicate in Japanese with the car rental company. Hotel counter Manager Ms Onoko helped us to contact the car rental to arrange for car key replacement and it’s delivery to the hotel. Later, we found the key back. Ms Onoko helped us again to contact the car rental which finally saved us a lot time and money. Thank you very much again ...
You may not pay attention to this hotel but I visited there for one night , I would like to sharing with you for my finding! 1. Nearly 100 number of free parking outside, so don't worry if you drive. 2. In fact there are total two onsen there , one inside the hotel on the lower floor , another next to the main building of the hotel, that entry with ticket g...
We booked Superior Japanese-Style Room with Private Open-Air Bath. The Onsen is wonderful, quiet and comfy. Breakfast and Dinner are superb. Satsuki Bessou Ryokan is definitely my choice for my next trip to Kumamoto.
Cheap places to stay in Kumamoto
I loved my stay here so much. Even the hostel is located a bit far from the core part of Kumamoto, it is closer to Kumamoto Castle(you can walk there!). The hostel has such a nice feeling like Japanese traditional home and has a beautiful rooftop and the area you can relax :) I recommended this hostel to another traveler while I was travelling in Kyushu and she loved i...

Although the hotel was 4 tram stations away from the Kumamoto station, it was within walking distance to the Kumamoto Kotsu Centre which was the hub for all bus transport to the various parts of Kyushu. The Tram transport was also easily accessible to all places of interests.
Staff was very helpful and the rooftop was very nice!
we arrived at kumamoto a little bit late, but the host Aso-san warmly welcome us and gave us a very funny introduction on how to use house facilities, also give us lots of recommendation for restaurant and supermarket nearby. Though we left next day morning, the host Aso-san gave each of us a hot pack painted smile pattern, how friendly and warm! We really enjoy the ...

the hotel is good value and next to suizenji jr station, which is good if you need to go to kumamoto station for any reason. otherwise the tram is the way to go downtown, where the castle and restaurants are. it may be a good idea to get the 1 or 2 day tram pass is you plan on spending the day doing activities, as each trip on the tram is 150 y per person. internet th...
Location is good, 3-5 min walk to the walking street with bars and shops also bus station. 15-20 Min walk to kumamoto castle, but it was closed for reconstruction now. From kumamoto jr station about 30min walk or take bus about 10mins. Seems some rooms are not re-decorated, and if you stay in those rooms , not worth the money.
Only wifi at lobby with softbank, but not a Japanese citizen is impossible to get an account. So no wifi at all, let alone in the room. Not recommended

The hotel is a very old building and all the furnishing are rather old and well-used. There was even a rotary-dial telephone in my room! But everything is functional and pretty clean. Although I got a non-smoking room, there were noisy smokers in the hallway early in the morning. It's a 10-minute walk to a tram station, but Kumamoto Castle and the active downtown area ...
OK but I had to take a 20 minutes train from Kumamoto to get there, I thought this hotel was in Kumamoto as it was advertised Kumamoto SOUTH.

The rooms, like most in Japan, are tiny here. Nothing to write home about, for sure. The check-in process caught us off guard, in that it is basically a small countertop instead of a nice lobby area. As is the case with most Japanese hotel rooms, there is very limited space and a small bathroom, plus a pay television. There is no wireless internet, but there is a slot ...
very good i wad very much comfortable
Great stay, has a 24hr supermarket near by (roughly 10-15min walk). Far frm Kumamoto Castle (roughly 10mins by Tram), shopping area (roughly 10mins by Tram) and Kumamoto JR Station (nearly 30mins by Tram).
The hotel is situated near a tramway station (it's about 20 minutes from Kumamoto Station and you can walk to the Kumamoto Castle). The staff is helpful and the room was really nice and clean! You should also check their drinks machine, you can buy camembert from it... I don't know what to say since I'm French... :')

I took late flight to Kumamoto so I stayed at Ozu for two nights. 2 minute walk to the hotel from Ozu station. Free public bath for female at night. The room is clean. Reception is not very good at English but they are very nice.
I chose this hotel because it was totally non smoking, there were few options in Kumamoto for non smoking hotels, I'll take a lower star hotel over a 5* smoking hotel any day. The location is great close to the main part of the city including restaurants and transport. This is a 2/3 star hotel but I loved it, it was clean and everyone was helpful - I speak no Japane...

The location is just near to train station. Service and hotel is also good enough in my trip.
Overall it was a very pleasant stay at Tamaki Ryokan. I always prefer staying in Japanese-style room with tatami bed as it is more spacious than normal modern hotel rooms. Tamiki Ryokan is a family-run hotel. The owner was very polite and warm person who greeted me with a big smile when I arrived. The room was clean, bright and spacious. All basic amenity are included ...

Kumamoto Castle Honmaru Palace nice castle and has a huge park. go at opening time 830am to avoid the crowd.
Aso is where I stayed. Close to the vulcano in the caldera. A car would have been better to explore the area.
Great shopping and dining around the city centre but also lots of good dining on the approach roads. A visit to Mount Aso is a must, hire a car for more flexibility.
Just go sight seeing & experiencing the culture of the city. Some shopping will be alright & tasting the local foods.
Kumamoto is the focal point in which you would be able to visit other places using the shikansen. Tske advantage of the Kyushu Rail Pass and visit places like Nagasaki, Beppu, Aso and Fukuoka.
stayed in Kumamoto for 3 nights and find it insufficient. too big and many nice places to roam. the place is absolutely clean and safe to travel.
The tram is the best way to get around. The food is good. Also very good choice of shops. A visit to Kumamoto Castle and Suizenji park is a must.
The downtown is not that big but we were very relax and felt very comfortable when travel there. We enjoyed our stay there!
a place with a lot of things to buy. with many delicious and special food that can be bought from the street.
The mascot Kumamon is very cute and we have enjoyed visiting strolling in the Suizenji park and also some of the nice food.
Kumamoto is hot during the day, so its best to visit and go sightseeing during the cooler seasons or night time.
nice place to visit, but not too many tourist spot to visit. I think if we go to Aso Volcanos, we have to visit Kumamoto
I was only in Kumamoto for 2 days but I would have liked to stay longer because there is a lot to do just on the outside of the city like hiking and other nature attractions.
It is a nice place in combining shopping malls, technologies (audio), food and tradition Japanese culture.
The city Is very quiet at nite unless you go to the tourist area. Overall the city is very comfortable.
We went there in August which was really hot to stay outdoor. We believe that travelling during March to May will be better.
Kumamoto is definitely a must in a Kyushu itinerary as it has the most beautiful castle and Mount Aso nearby.
We're disappointed with the legendary hospitality the Japanese have been credited with. The male reception staff at the hotel were not helpful at all when we tried to check in and they did not have a room available due to over-booking.
Nice town with friendly people. There are enough restaurants en stores for shopping and eating. The lights at night are lovely and we took a lot of photo's
Places of visit: Kumamoto castle Food: Horse cuisine is excellent; Tips: one should choose the best restaurant dedicated for horse cuisine to ensure the quality of the horse meat.
