Convenient, Safe, Friendly, Professional and Easy.”

Location, Non-Smoking room options, Warm rooms without airconditioning, Helpful Staff, Free Internet, Extensive Buffet Breakfast

My Boyfirned (23) and myself (19) Recently went to Japan for our first Time. During our trip we stayed at Sunlite Shinjuku Hotel from the 19/02/12-01/03/12. As first time visitors to Japan we were apprehensive about a number of things, including language barriers etc. However, From our very first point of Contact with the Staff at Sunlite we found this to be no drama. The hotel is located in an amazing position-Just 5-10 minutes walk from 2 entrances to the Shinjuku Train station (New south Exit and West Exit) which hosts all lines including JR (for those people travelling with a JR pass). The Subway lines are even closer with one in the same street. The staff at Sunlite are trustworthy, helpful and some are proficient in English. Checking in and checking out procedures were easy and fast with no confusion or misunderstandings. Advise can also be sought from staff. We stayed in a Semi-Double room which we had booked via Agoda. The bed is slightly smaller than a double sized bed but we both fitted fine and comfortably in the room with 2 large suitcases and backpacks. The bathroom and room were small but this was of zero worry or concern for us as we were out and about every day. The buffet Breaky that was included in our deal was extensive and had both Japanese and European options including scrambled egg, sausages, bacon, wedges, salad, tea/coffee, cerial, soup, toast, juice etc. Staff at the resturant were also friendly and the food was fresh and you can see it being cooked. Another perk of this hotel is the Free internet access, they also rent out Laptops for those people who need access for longer or personal/bussiness use. The hotel location is situated Close to the Main street in shinjuku, a 2 minute walk from 'Lawson' convenience store, 5 minutes from Starbucks and 2 minutes from a variety of resutants both japanese style and western. The area is in a quiet backstreet so it is very safe and fairly quite. Rooms were so warm in winter without aircon!

Great people, english speaking & clean rooms”

free internet access, friendly staff

sunlite hotel shinjuku is a fantastic hotel for it's price. the room sizes might be slightly small compared to some other hotels around tokyo, but for the price we payed, it was fantastic!!! location wise was a bit tricky to get to if you haven't really been to tokyo before...and initially took us about 20 minutes to find it via looking at maps....but once you know it's location, it's fantastic. about a 10 - 15 minute walk to jr shinjuku station, which isn't too bad as on the way there, you'd walk across the main shopping area for food, clothing and general shopping. the staff there are extremely polite and speak well if you don't speak a word of japanese like myself. a bonus feature of this hotel, apart from the free internet access, is the free self washing facilities. it takes about 3 hours for a wash and dry, and they might have only 2 machines, which means you'd have to check or let them know in advanced..but seriously, what hotel lets you wash your clothes for free??? especially a budget style hotel. apart from the location...which again, wasn't too bad....i definitely recommend this hotel to any traveler!

Great hotel, great location, great service”

location, friendly staff, clean, neat

This was our second stay in the Sunlite hotel. We like to stay here because of it's fantastic location (central Shinjuku), friendly staff (Some English speaking)and affordable rates. The rooms are small, but we are not the type to care about room size as we are only there to sleep! The rooms are always clean and include everything you would need at a basic level. Fridge, Writing desk, Internet access, TV, Hairdryer, Bathroom, phone, radio with alarm clock and some slightly larger rooms have a table and two chairs. If you are aiming to stay at a luxurious, 'vacation' like hotel, this s not the option for you. It is a 'business' hotel, designed mainly for business trips and for basic comfort, but if you don't mind so much about this and will be spending most of your time adventuring around Tokyo, it is perfectly adequate. We basically love everything about this hotel apart from one element... the 2am curfew. We found ourselves cutting short our enjoyment of gigs and nights out in order to make it back to the hotel by 2am. It is not so much of an issue though, and we will stay there next time we visit Tokyo as there are ways around the curfew issue. The staff are wonderful.. if you ask or any advice, directions or help in any way, they will do everything they can to find a solution for you. They have many maps, information sheets and route plans at their disposal, and can print more information on different areas of Tokyo and subway guides for you. When we go, we don't dine at the hotel restaurant, so we cannot comment on the food there. All in all, it is a lovely hotel to stay at and we would highly recommend it. We will continue to stay there year after year.

Ideal location not far from Shinjuku Station”

Hotel Sunlite Shinjuku is located in an ideal spot only minutes walk from all the primary attractions, restaurants, and train station. It's also situated a a few minutes east of Golden Gai so after bar hopping that walk back to the hotel isn't long. It's also nice because it's so close to Kabukicho without being in Kabukicho, which can be annoying for those not used to the red light district. Location is the best quality however the rooms are very clean and quiet; the staff is super friendly and can navigate English language if needed. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it for anyone traveling alone or as a couple.

great price, location and stay”

The best thing is first the price, which was very cheap, especially considering the location of the hotel. Booking online was very easy and then I also extended my stay as the price was so good. The hotel's location was extremely central and easy to find. Easy walking distance to shops, restaurants and the busy aspect of Shinjuku as well as being close to the station for easy acess from the airport and for other trips outside of Tokyo. Very clean hotel also and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
The only weakness of the hotel might be the size of the room. I am a small person and a single and fit in the room fine, however a very large person with a lot of luggage might find the single room a bit of a tight squeeze, especially the bathroom.

I was really happy with my stay at the Sunlite Hotel. Very easy to find from Shinjuku Sanchome station and easy walking distance to Shinjuku station. The staff were friendly, helpful and professional. A great location to see central Tokyo and to explore the shops. I loved staying here, and as a single, was the perfect size, price and location for me. Highly recommended!

Clean rooms, good location”

The rooms are tiny but clean. Small rooms are normal in Tokyo, and honestly, who is going to stay in their room all day in Tokyo anyway? All we need is somewhere to sleep, wash and leave our bags. The rooms have been recently renovated. I've stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions over the years and, even before the renovations, all areas of the hotel are always spotless. The location is great. It's away from the noisy, busy part of Shinjuku but still close enough to it. Shinjuku station and the new bus terminal (for Haneda airport) is only a 15 minute walk away, and Shinjuku san-chome station is only a few minutes walk away. The post office, restaurants, convenience stores and vending machines are just minutes from the front door. The hotel has laundry facilities for guests (just 2 washer-dryer combos, so you need to check availability at the front desk) and a restaurant (which closes at about 9pm). Breakfast is quite good and includes cereal, toast, pastries, fish, salad, fruit, yoghurt, juice and coffee. I'll stay here when I visit Tokyo again because it's convenient, friendly and, most importantly, clean.

Very friendly and great location”

-Staff were very nice and helpful (I needed to see a doctor and they helped a lot with finding one for me) -Great location as it is right up against all the business and buzz of Shinjuku but just (and I mean just) out of it to enjoy a quieter nights sleep
Nothing really, rooms very small but why would anyone expect them not to be as it IS Shinjuku and the price is cheap.

My girlfriend and I stayed six nights at this hotel so experienced it quite well. It is along Meiji-dori so it is very very easy to navigate to and from the heart of Shinjuku and Shinjuku Station as this is the main street that runs through Tokyo. The staff are friendly and the hotel itself is quiet inside and out (it is just away from the busier bits of Shinjuku). There is a small shrine basically just opposite the hotel that was lovely to walk passed every morning and night. At first we were a bit thrown off by the size of Tokyo hotel rooms (especially coming from living in houses all our lives) but after a couple nights it actually became quite cosy! There is free internet access in room and downstairs at the two available computers which is handy too.

I was only in Tokyo for two days and this hotel was offered a great price. It was nice, clean, and offered everything I needed. Buyer Beware however: All I needed was a place to sleep and shower at the end of the day. I've stayed in Tokyo hotels before, and this one was the smallest I've ever been in. I joked to my friends that it was a walk-in closet with a bathroom, and that's only a slight exaggeration. Still a very nice hotel if you're looking to stay in Tokyo for a few days. Located right in the middle of Shinjuku, a stone's throw away from the famous Golden Gai block of trendy little bars. Also close to multiple subway station entrances, but still a bit of a walk to the trains themselves as the Shinjuku Sanchoume station is huge.

Great hotel!”

Location, value, staff
Small rooms, but wasn't really an issue for us; bathroom smelt a bit mouldy, there was no exhaust fan in there.

Had a wonderful stay at Sunlite Hotel. All up, we were there for 12 nights. The curfew did not affect us but I imagine that could have been quite frustrating. Very close to Shinjuku Sanchome subway station, and 15 minute walk to the larger Shinjuku station (or a 715 yen taxi ride away, worth it if you have luggage). Lots to see and do locally, Golden Gai (area with small bars) is super close, as well some of the better department stores Isetan (10 minutes walk), Takashimaya (15-20 min walk) and Tokyu Hands. All in all, a fantastic place to stay for a couple, for a short or long stay. One of the cheaper hotels in the area.

Friendly Staff, Great Location, No Complaints”

Affordable hotel in an expensive city

Sunlite Shinjuku Hotel is a no frills business hotel. It's a great place for travellers who don't expect much in terms of hotel amenities. However, the rooms are clean and typically small sized for Tokyo. They do have a few English channels on television you just have to press the BS button on the remote control. Just read the one page tv manual and you'll figure it out. The hotel is closer to the Metro station, about a 5 minute walk. The JR Shinjuku station is a pleasant 15 minute walk. I recommend this hotel, it's great for a solo traveler like me.

great stay at Shinjuku Sunlite”

clean rooms friendly and helpful staff internet access in room (not wifi) great location
very firm beds very hard pillows tiny rooms

Overall Shinjuku Sunlite hotel was a great place to stay. The location is terrific, in the shinjuku area which is full of great shopping, restaurants, and near the gay district (ni-chome). The hotel, however, is not really that close to the Shinjuku station, and I would recommend taking a taxi to the hotel is carrying lots of luggage. The hotel is very close though to the shinjuku san-chome line which i found very convenient. The hotel room itself was very clean, well kept, and had extra amenities (slippers, toothbrush, etc). Dont be expecting a huge room, as you will be hard pressed to find one bigger at this price. The beds were also very firm and the pillows felt like they were packed with macaroni (but this seems to be the case in most of asia). The front desk staff were very helpful and provided great service. Overall, a great value considering the location.

Sunlite of Shinjuku”

Great location, friendly staffs & clean.
A bit noisy sometime but you'd expect that aound Shinjuku area.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in early Sept 2010. Great location in Shinjuku area, not far from JR station (use south exit) and even closer to subway. You can use the underground walkway which is just across the street from the hotel if it's raining to go to JR station or subway. Being in Shinjuku area it is great for shopping, food, night life and everything else as Shinjuku station is one of the major train stations in Tokyo. The room is a bit small just like a lot of Japanese hotels but its quite reasonable for the price. Just like most places in Japan, the customer service is very good. The staffs are very polite, friendly & helpful. I would stay here again.

Excellent location with pleasant attentive staff”

Located just off the main Shinjuku drag therefore quieter (but not quiet)

Yes of course the room is small. This is Tokyo not some ranch in Arizona. Space is at a premium in Tokyo so paying a modest amount for a modest hotel gets you a modest amount of space. That said my room on the third floor was comfortable, and clean with all amenities available. Cleaning occurred every day to a more than satisfactory level. The position of the hotel is convenient to the main Shinjuku train station being 10 - 12 minutes walk away at most. Likewise the hotel is convenient for theatre land, shopping, dining, and the red light area - which is there to be found if wanted. I recommend this hotel as great value for money - pretty impressive.

Great location, clean room and friendly staff”

We got a last minute deal on this room price, so I can't comment on the normal price. Like almost all Japanese hotels, there is pretty much nowhere to put your stuff (wardrobe etc), but this is standard. The bed was comfortable and the room clean. There was no 'hint of smoke smell' you get in some 'non-smoking' rooms. The staff at the front desk were friendly, and there was always someone around who spoke English enough for us to get by without pulling out the phrase book. We were able to wash and dry our clothes in a coin washing machine - but you need to be flexible on time to fit this in as there are only two machines. The bakery next door was a great, cheap, vegetarian breakfast. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it for Shinjuku.

Pleasant Stay”

Free LAN internet, cable supplied in room. Mini fridge. Clean room. Some free TV channels. Free 1 minute preview of pay to view TV channels per day. Spacious shower (for Japan.) Room layout is convenient (for placing things, accessing LAN from bed, TV viewing position.)
Free 1 minute preview of pay to view TV channels per day. This wasn't an issue for me, but I can see if being an issue for families with minors; we ran across a few porn channels during the 1 minute preview time interval. The toilet was too close to the wall. Not enough water in the toilet basin can make for a very unpleasant number 2 experience (found this to be common in Japan.) Room layout feels cluttered at the same time (everything feels cramped together especially with luggage inside room, you have a bit a hard time moving around.)

The hotel was not too hard to find. We had a GPS street map, not too detailed just street outlines no names (mapdryoid.) It is within walking distance from Shinjuku station. You can also take a subway and get off on F13/S02/M09 stop, then walk to E2 exit. Bit of a walk from the subway also but it leaves you almost right in front of hotel... sort of, about 500m from the hotel. The location of the hotel was fairly convenient compared to other places we stayed at throughout Japan. There is a Lawson store very close to it. We arrived a little early and they actually checked to see if our room was ready, usually in other places they would just tell us to leave our luggage and come back at check-in. The check-in process was fairly quick as most places we visited. Our room was actually ready so they checked us right in, something we always appreciated greatly as we couldn't always control our arrival time due to us not knowing train schedules or giving ourselves extra time for finding places, getting lost etc, but like I mentioned earlier this place was easy to find. The room wasn't much different from other places we stayed at in Japan in the same price range. The staff were attentive and friendly, yet stayed more on the professional side. There were drink vending machines on a few floors but not all, at least not ours (10th, I spotted one on the 6th floor.) We didn't use the mini fridge other than for drinks, so not sure how well it worked for other things such as frozen goods. We definitely enjoyed watching a little bit of the free TV channels and liked the fact that the LAN cable reached over to the bed so I could use the internet while on the bed instead of having to sit at a desk like in other places. Robes and slippers were provided. The bed was same as all other semi-doubles we had in Japan, bed sheets kept us warm when it was 10 degrees C outside. There was no AC or heater controls that I could find. There was no humidity vent in the bathroom. Make

Nice functional business hotel close to Shinjuku a”

Location, room service/housekeeping was good
a bit of a walk, noisy at night

This is a good value hotel if you're looking for a place to stay close to Shinjuku attractions (major shopping/eating areas). It's easy accessible by public transport, although there is a bit of a walk, about 10-15mins (E1 or E2 exit from the Shinjuku sanchrome metro station, which is also connected underground to the Shinjuku JR station). It is easy to travel from here to other areas of interest around Tokyo. It can be a bit noisy at night on the street with ambulance/police sirens. The staff was really nice and easy to communicate with. LAN line for free internet connection, but it wasn't very fast. You can ask for an adaptor to borrow for your laptop. Compared to other Shinjuku hotels it is very good value I thought. Housekeeping also did a very good job daily although obviously I would wear my own fipflops in the room. The toiletries/shampoo etc. provided were really good quality and they gave you new ones daily even though I would have been happy using the same toothbrush for my 3 nights stay. They have a fridge and kettle in the room as well. The hotel itself is slightly old and not as modern but overall I was satisfied with the stay although I might try something new next time.
