Excellent Choice in a Mid-Range Priced Hotel”

I'm a veteran traveller who has stayed in a wide range of hotels all over the world. Room had a queen-sized bed, desk, office chair, a small sofa, chair and ottoman, located on a non-smoking, upper floor of the hotel. In terms of location, service and room quality, I would recommend the Mystays Shijo Hotel very highly for the price. The hotel is situated on a main street in downtown Kyoto, and is therefore close to many restaurants, as well as 2 minutes from the major bus routes and 5 minutes from the subway. Whenever I had questions of the people at the front desk, they always had an English-speaking person available to assist me, and they did so eagerly. There service went beyond what was expected; for example, when I asked where the nearest place was to be an all-day local city bus pass (500 yen), they said that they sold them there and asked me if I needed a city public transportation guide. Then when I asked them what sites they would recommend I see in northern Highashiyama, they provided me with walking tour maps of both southern and northern Highashiyama (only the former was available in my Lonely Planet guide). Despite the downtown location, the room was very quiet and immaculately clean, everything worked well, and the large bed was very comfortable.

Good comfort near Kyoto Shijou”

Located about 300 meters west of Kyoto Shijo station, Hotel Mystays Kyoto was in a good location, easy to find, and the room was fine. The TV was a little small for the room size, but everything else felt 3-star quality or better. The staff was very helpful, and even retained some items that I had forgotten in the refrigerator after I returned to pick up the luggage I had them keep for me in the afternoon. I would definitely stay here again in the future.

Comfortable, impeccable location where there is plenty to eat along shijo dori. Nearby shijo subway station and very near to teramachi and kawaramachi shopping districts! Enjoyed my stay in kyoto thoroughly at Mystays, will definitely look forward to come back to stay here again..!

Mystays Hotel Kyoto”

At Kyoto station they had no record of the Mystays Hotel and only found out where it was by ringing directory enquiries. However the location is good, about 8 minutes walk west along Shijo Dori from Shijo subway station. We thought about staying an additional night but the room rate the hotel wanted was alot more than we had paid via the internet booking. We did not eat in the hotel but we did use the washing machine facility which was good. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Mystays Shijo Hotel”

I was very pleased with the Mystays Shijo Hotel. It was a much more spacious and comfortable room than I expected. I spent much more money in other hotels in Tokyo and Hiroshima, but stayed in smaller rooms. This hotel was a very good value for Kyoto. It is also well located and close to the train station, so for travelers taking the bullet train, it's a good choice. There is a restaurant downstairs that is really tasty and reasonably priced.

Excellent value with quality stay”

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of this hotel. We booked really early and got an incredible deal! We booked 2 twins for 5 nights for family of 4, which gave us plenty of space. WIFI was fast and did not drop for a single time while we were there. We also enjoyed a free coffee and green tea service at the 2nd floor (though we did not take an advantage of pouring it into a huge mug like other travelers!). There were also free DHC skincare products offered, which was a big plus for ladies. We stayed in other hotel chains in other places, and we kept talking about how nice the Hotel MyStays Shijo was. Love this Hotel!!”

We got a great deal from Agoda. This hotel was superb. The location was OK, 10 minutes by bus#50 from Kyoto Station, or 2 stations from Kyoto by underground to Shijo and 8 minutes walk. The room (Deluxe Twin) was spacious and comfortable. I enjoyed the free Lavazza Coffee and Matcha Tea, plus some cosmetic samples, at the lobby very much. The breakfast at the restaurant JPY 1000 was great. The staffs were nice and professional. I would stay at this hotel again, if I come back to Kyoto.

Mystays SHijo Hotel Kyoto”

This hotel is excellently located, on Shijo Dori, so you could not be more central. Easy 20 minute walk along Shijo Dori high street to the river, temple and gardens, past many interesting shops. Or take any of the many buses, many of the routes passing along Shijo Dori high street. Neat, friendly English speaking reception staff who were eager to help. Very clean and tidy throughout. The entrance lobby is luxurious and that feel extends to the rest of the hotel including the room which was carpeted and had a good large western style bed. The room also had a good desk and free high-speed internet via an ethernet connection, which worked straight away with no hassle. Nice bathroom and 'full featured' Japanese toilet with lots of buttons to press! Fresh towels and bedclothes were provided every day. Everything was very clean. There is a coin operated laundry machine on the ground floor. We found only two drawbacks. Firstly a lack of storage space! There was no wardrobe or drawers, only two six-inch pegs on a wall with space for about 3 clothes hangers each, so your shirts ended up bunched up. Also one of the pegs was above the other so there was no room for long items like coats. Secondly, a more minor drawback was that there was no view or even daylight from our room window. We were facing a blank wall one metre away, so had to keep lights on during daytime and could not tell what the weather was like. Overall, I would strongly recommend this hotel but please be aware of the lack of clothes hanging space if you have a lot of clothes or need to stay more than a few days.

Comfortable stay at a great location”

Very comfortable stay in MyStays. Room is more spacious than most other hotels at the same price range. Location is perfect, right in the central of Kyoto. All other facilities and utilities are as for most hotels in Japan - hairdryer, fridge, clothing presser, fast internet, etc. For what we paid (about $70AUD for 2people) MyStays was more than we expected.

Very close to bus station, which is important because bus is the best way to tour Kyoto. A short 5-10 min bus ride to the Kyoto station, which will easily take you to anywhere. The staff is very helpful, friendly, and communicate in English well. The room is big in Japanese standard and very clean. We didn't try the dining hall but there's a supermarket, convenience store, several restaurants right next to the hotel. A short 10 min walk will take you to the busy Shijo area and Nishiki market. Would definitely stay here again!

Great location great value for money ”

This is a really great little hotel rooms surprisingly large after a tokyo stay. 6 min walk from shijo subway which is just 2 stops from kyoto main station. Fab little wierd restaurant across road "yaikoen" or something similar where you purchase food ticket from an ATM machine (pictures and food displays in window to help super cheap. Fan local restaurants behind hotel for a true japenese feel too, the hotel will provide you with a map of local eateries foreign and japenese. Well placed for buses again hotel sell you a day ticket for 500 yen we visited bamboo groves by bus very easily. Hotel is 10 min walk from nishiki market which is a must see fab food market full of character we went everyday for 3 days!!! Didn't eat in hotel so can't comment on food. Fresco supermarket and family mart next door/over road both do hot snacks and lovely cold salad/buffet items plus bread cross aunts etc for breakie. Would def recommend hotel it's cheap well located we enjoyed our stay thanks :)

I had a beautiful clean large room on a non-smoking floor with personal AC/heating controls and a view over the city from the 12th floor. The staff could not have been more helpful. When I arrived I had left my reading glasses in Shizuoka and the desk clerk personally took me to a "99 Shop" (like a dollar store") about 100 metres away so I could buy replacement glasses. There was a computer system available in a corridor off the main lobby. Combs, toothbrushes, razors, etc were all available in the reception area. I did not try the restaurant but it looked very nice. It is about 30 minutes walking distance to the Nijo Castle and maybe 45 mins to the Gion (Geisha) district). Five minutes walk from Shijo station/ Karasuma stations. At Karasuma you can get a Hankyu train to Osaka without going into Kyoto central and it is cheaper (about 390 yen vs 745 by Subway and JR trains. I highly recommend this hotel.

This is the second time I stayed in this Hotel and I enjoyed my stay both times. The staff on both occasions have been able to speak english and my check in and check out has been seamless, I had luggages delivered to and from here without issues. Though I suggest googling or using apple maps to locate where you want to go, unless you have a fluent english speaker in front of you. The hotel is at least 10-15 minutes walk from the nearest train station, take the number 24 exit on the kyoto subway line so that you don’t have to cross the street, exit at number 23 and you have to cross the street to get to the hotel side of the path (look west). You have to take the kyoto subway line from kyoto station to get to the hotel. If you want to stay at a hotel near kyoto station then I suggest you move on and search further on agoda. The area around the hotel is littered with convenience stores and restaurants and eating joints. The nearest stop is about a ~5-10 minute walk each way. There is a stop on both sides of the hotel when you step out. I travelled with a group of older travellers so my times reflect that. Nishiki market, and the shopping streets are approximately 20 minutes away towards the east from the hotel. I would definitely book here again as the service, cleanliness, and staff has been excellent.

there was bus stop near the hotel, which was located in front of a cheap food court with many choices and good food. There was Fresco(supermarket) next to the hotel, so if you were hungry at any moment, it was easy and convenient to get good.Kyoto Station is within 10 minute bus drive and due to the excellent and convenient bus transportation system in Kyoto, it was accessible to almost all scenic spots. Staffs were friendly and helpful. Like all other MyStays chains, it never failed my expectation of how a budget hotel should be. Good choices for backpackers and business travelers, too.

MyStays Kyoto Shijo is worth staying”

The hotel is located along Shijo which is a busy street for good shopping (big shopping malls like Daimarua and Takashimaya are along the street). It is within walking distance to the Nishiki Market, a must-visit place in Kyoto. It is also walkable to a subway station that is served by two subway lines - making traveling to/fro Tokyo and Osaka very easy. The room is big and clean. We definitely had a good 3-day stay there.

Modern hotel for extremely budget prices!”

This hotel is very clean and very modern for the price you are paying. The rooms are very clean and relatively big for Japan standards and the toilet is equipped with an anti-fog mirror. The location is great - very near Shijo Karasuma Hankyu Station (10 mins walk) and Shijo Nishiotoin bus stop (2 mins walk). There is also a grocer downstairs with a Family Mart across the street. Highly recommended!
