Very nice hotel in a quiet part of Kyoto”
We stayed at the Hearton Hotel Kyoto for new year's eve and new year's day. We were lucky to find a room at this lovely hotel at a reasonable price for those two days. It is located in aquiet part of central part of Kyoto. The action and happening areas are no more than 10 to 15 minute walk away. A subway station is no more than a 5 minute walk. There is no escalator in subway station that would take you from the platform to the street level. So it could be a problem if you have a heavy suitcase. The room was very clean and quite roomy for 2 people. The wifi signal was also excellent. We highly recommend this place if you want to be on a quiet street of Kyoto.. However, if you are only staying in Kyoto for a short period of time and want easy access to the tourist sites, we suggest that you stay near Kyoto Station instead.

An Overall Good Hotel”
I have stayed in a fair share of business hotels in Japan, and so far this has been my favorite. While it may not be quite so nice as some of the luxury hotels, for the price this was a dream. The room was small by Western standards, but roomy by Japanese business hotel ones. The staff always did their best to answer our questions, and while a knowledge of Japanese would be helpful, there is usually someone on staff who speaks English well enough that it wouldn't be necessary. The shower in our bathroom had the shower-holder break (it was the type with a movable shower head) one evening. The next morning we told the hotel staff about it, and we were told that if we left our key with them for the day, they would send someone in to repair it, or we would get a new room if it couldn't be fixed. We came back later that evening to find that the shower had been fixed perfectly while we were out. Their response to this little problem was wonderful. The breakfast buffet, which came with our room deal, was filling. The Western-style breakfast was, as all things Western in Japan, very Japanese, but it had a good selection, and we were never left hungry - eggs, bacon, rolls and breads, rice, miso soup, pumpkin soup, canned fruit, fresh fruits, dim sum, and a selection of milk, juices, ice tea and coffee (iced or hot). The hours for the breakfast buffet were also convenient - 7:00-10:00am. The subway stop for Karasuma Oike was literally just around the corner from the hotel - it took less than two minutes to walk there. Karasuma Oike is where the two subway lines in Kyoto cross, making it very convenient to get either to Kyoto Station, or Nijo-jo. And, as extra convenience, the hotel sells bus and subway passes for Kyoto at the front desk - no need to waste time or money in getting them at Kyoto station. The one complaint we had was in electrical outlets. Perhaps this comes of being three guys between 20 and 30.

Good value for money”
For this trip I stayed at three hotels and this one was by far the most enjoyable. The staff were always friendly and competent, and were able to accommodate my requests in English. I found the location was great as it was on the Karasuma subway line whilst also being within easy walking distance of the Downtown district (where the limited Kyoto nightlife is located). However that is subjective - some may prefer their hotels to be located near the main Kyoto station. Given the price bracket that it's in, I couldn't find any real downsides to my stay at the Hearton. The room and the desk inside were both a bit small, but this appears to be the case with other Japanese hotels in this bracket. I would love to stay here again next time I'm in Kyoto!

Just what we needed!”
this hotel was just what we needed! it's pretty busy and kyoto is such a tourist city that i wasn't too surprised when the front desk staff wasn't too friendly upon check-in. that said, the english speking concierge worked very hard to book us a guided tour the next day, and it was the best tour i've ever had in kyoto! i stayed at the hearton holtel for 3 nights with my mother and aunt (both over 60). and though the room was small, it fit 3 twin beds just perfectly. breakfast downstairs was buffet and just what we needed. one other pro was that the room did not smell of smoke! i find that most hotels in asia still smell of smoke even though they claim to be non-smoking. this was not the case at hearton. it was a real delight!

'Great location close to main subways'”
The Hearton Hotel in Kyoto was very clean and comfortable. Even the bathroom! You get internet connection for your own laptop + a kettle and some tea. I would definitely stay here again. It was also close to a subway station. Be careful which train you board leaving Osaka airport for Kyoto. We bought a ticket from a machine, boarded a train and then half way through found out that we had boarded some fast train and had to cough up about double the fare. Later we found a good tip for trains - Try www.hyperdia.com for timetables. In Kyoto it’s worthwhile getting a one-day ticket for the subway at least one day and do a lot of riding and sightseeing. One day ticket costs 600 yen. Otherwise Kyoto is easy for walking. You can get this ticket from the person manning the booth at the gate. The ticket machines are initially hard to work out but just check the station map for the cost to your destination (and station number) and feed the machine some money first. English instructions exist if you notice the button on the ticket machine. Once on the train announcements and electronic signs are also in English. Could have stayed longer in Kyoto.

Nice location and decent accommodation”
I stayed at Hearton Hotel Kyoto at the peak of the cherry blossom season. Hotels in the city were fully booked and I just took a chance with this hotel. It's located in a straight after the Northeast exit of the Karasuma-oike station. A subway line in Kyoto (not covered by the JR rail pass) but it's just 3 stations away. So it's relatively near Kyoto station. A good starting point to tour around Kyoto as it is very near Gion and Kyoto station. Hearton Hotel Kyoto looked pretty old but my impression changed when I got in. It was pretty nice. I think it was more of a business hotel because it's located at the central of the business district of Kyoto. There were more banks and office buildings at the neighboring blocks, but I did find a small bar/drinking joint at the opposite end that caters to a more mature crowd. Haha Overall I believe the facilities were nice. The room size is small but fair. Hotel prices were reasonable. The service was very good, staff were very friendly and can talk good English. Heck, there was one who knew little Spanish so I was thrilled. Too bad they don't have a currency exchange at the hotel or somewhere nearby because I was always out touring that I hardly had time to come back and look for a currency exchange shop. But overall I enjoyed my stay there and would recommend this hotel to my friends.

Very good, conventally located hotel”
I enjoyed my stay at the Hearton Hotel Kyoto. The hotel is located just a couple of minutes away from Karasumaoike station, which is at the intersection of the two Kyoto subway lines. This makes it very easy to get to Kyoto Station, Nijo castle, the main shopping area, etc. Though we could not check in 45 minutes before the standard 2 PM check in time (a practice which seems pretty standard in Japanese hotels), the staff held our bags for us behind the counter. The Double room was a pretty tight fit for two Western travelers carrying way too much stuff, but it was very neat and clean. And like all other Japanese hotels I've been in, free internet access via LAN was provided. For the price, I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

Very relaxing hotel in Kyoto Japan!”
The Hearton was a great hotel to stay at during my time in Kyoto. It is centrally located, so most of the cultural attractions are within a 20-30 minute walk or a 10-minute subway ride. The hotel is located across the street from the Karasuma-Oike subway station and about 10 blocks to Nijo Castle or the Imperial Palace. There are many restaurants, shops, mini-marts along the street, so it’s never a problem to get anything you need. The hotel itself was very clean and the room was nicely appointed. There was a clock/radio/alarm in the room; vending machines/ice located on various floors, public Internet on the 2nd floor and free (wired) Internet in the hotel rooms. The staff of the hotel were very friendly and I never had any trouble getting assistance. There is an affordable restaurant with light fare conveniently located off the lobby.

I would have given the hotel a 4+ rating except ....”
We came to Japan and spent 8 days in 3 different hotels. Of the three, Hearton Hotel Kyoto would have been the best one if it hadn't had the so ever-lasting pervasive smoking odor on the 8th floor, our floor. Our room was a non-smoking room and it had a spray bottle of air freshener. Having said that, our room had no problem; it was clean and fresh - every day! We don't mind staying in the hotel next time we are in Kyoto as we just have to put up with the odor of cigarette smoke for a short walk from our room to the elevator. Its location is excellent - about 150 m from the nearest bus / sub-way station. It's about 15 minutes walk to the Gion area and 3 stops from Kyoto station via Karasuma subway. The hotel meets the 3+ star standard. Its economy double room is small but is adequate and efficient - and the price per night we paid during the peak autumn season was very comparable to other hotels around the city center.

Hearton Kyoto”
The Hearton hotel is located in a very easy to get to location. It was very easy to see the sights of Kyoto with The Hearton as a base. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were clean. The amenities were strictly Japanese. Our only complaint was that the room smelled very strongly of cigarettes so we had to keep the window open. They were great about letting us leave our luggage for the day since we had an evening train to Wakayama.

Good experience in Hearton Hotel, Kyoto”
Quiet area of Kyoto, a tad far from the sights, but a very short walk from the subway. Staff were helpful and spoke English. Rooms were clean, larger than Tokyo hotels of a similar price, and best of all, Hearton lets you check-out at noon rather than the 10am so common in other hotels. Sheer bliss to sleep in!

Hearton Hotel - Best place to stay in Kyoto!”
The Hearton in Kyoto was by far the best and affordable hotels I stayed at during my 3 weeks in Japan. The service by staff was excellent and they had a great knowledge of the area and places to visit. The view from my room was breathtaking. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a clean, comfortable and central stay in Kyoto.

Hearton Hotel-- no complaints”
Hearton Hotel is located in the downtown area of Kyoto which we found to be desirable. Easy walking distance to Gion area, Nishi Markent etc which means lots of eating and shopping opportunities. Subway is conveniently nearby which can get you to Kyoto Station (and elsewhere) which is needed to get you to bus routes for most tourist sights (bus line 100 best for most sights). Hearton's rooms are clean and adequate, though relatively small. Of course we didn't spend too much time in the room, with so much to see in Kyoto.

Wonderful Hotel and Good Location”
My husband, cousin, and I stayed at the Hearton Hotel in one room. We had twin beds and a rollaway bed. The size of the room in comparison to other hotels we stayed in Japan was one of the larger ones (standard size for US hotel room sizes). There was a vault and a refrigerator and wired Internet service. Free Wi-Fi was available downstairs in the lobby and restaurant area. It's surprising that in the larger cities in Japan, there isn't more wi-fi available in the hotel rooms. The restaurant's morning breakfast was okay (they had a variety of different foods to try to appeal to the many ethnic tastes). Location of the hotel was good as it was close to a subway station just down the block. As far as shopping you need to investigate the many neighboring areas for more of the traditional items.

Overall a good hotel”
Hearton Hotel Kyoto is close to the subway, shopping areas, convenience stores. The hotel is in Central Kyoto and is good to use as a base for your travels. Only 2 subway stations away from the main JR Kyoto station line and shinkansens.

Peaceful and friendly”
The Hearton was an allround positive experience for me. The friendly staff were always helpful and my twin room was clean, comfortable and quiet. The location was excellent with access to the main streets and the nearby markets. The free bike use was great as was the free internet access. Considering the competitive nature of hotels and other accomodation i would totally recommend the Hearton. Air con was also working fine and the room was modern and functional.

Great hotel!”
We stayed for five nights there (August 2009). Really enjoyed it. - Modern facilities - Very clean (as per Japanese standard) - Good sized rooms (not quite Japanese standard) - Soft matress and good pillows (again, not quite Japanese standard). I realised how comfortable the bed was after I stayed in other two hotels in Japan. - Good breakfast with european and japanese food for 1,000 yen. They also offer japanese breakfast for 1,380 yen - the hotel offers lunches as well (you need to pay for them) - No smokers in the hotel (at least I didn't smell there had been any) - Free internet facilities - Laundrette at reasonable price - Free blood pressure check point - It's a very quiet place where you can have a good rest after visiting endless Kyoto shrines and other interesting places. I even slept through an earthquake and didn't feel a thing. :))) My husband told me about it next morning.

A good choice in Kyoto”
We stayed 4 days in Hearton Hotel and we enjoyed our stay. The hotel's location is quite central and you can reach from Kyoto Train station by metro in 10 minutes. The closest metro station is Karasuma Oike. The rooms are clean and compact. You can find everything you need but it is not very spacious. The bicycle service is a great plus for a city like Kyoto where you can travel everywhere easily by bicycle. Just make sure that you book your bicycles as soon as you check in because there is huge demand. Free internet is another plus, but the comon PCs in Level 2 are very slow. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. I strongly suggest this hotel for your stay in Kyoto.
